Preconstruction Manager / Senior Estimator

Location: Fraser Valley, BC
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Work Arrangement: In Office
Salary Range: Approximately $130,000–$200,000, depending on experience and level

Overview

Our client is an established commercial construction company who are seeking either an experienced Preconstruction Manager or a strong Senior Estimator who is ready to take on greater leadership responsibility. This role will oversee the estimating department, lead larger and more complex bids, review the work of other estimators, and help improve the consistency and competitiveness of the company’s tendering process.

Must-Haves
  • Significant estimating or preconstruction experience with a commercial general contractor.
  • Current or recent experience as a Senior Estimator, Preconstruction Manager, Chief Estimator, or in a comparable senior-level role.
  • Experience independently managing commercial construction bids from initial review through final submission.
  • Strong knowledge of drawings, specifications, scopes of work, subcontractor pricing, tender requirements, and project risk.
  • Experience estimating larger or complex commercial construction projects.
  • Ability to review estimates prepared by others and identify scope gaps, pricing issues, and commercial risks.
  • Strong communication, organization, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work full-time from the company’s Fraser Valley office.
Nice to Haves
  • Previous experience leading or supervising an estimating team.
  • Experience mentoring junior or intermediate estimators.
  • Experience improving estimating procedures, templates, quality controls, or departmental standards.
  • Exposure to both hard-bid and negotiated commercial construction projects.
  • Experience conducting post-bid reviews and analyzing unsuccessful tenders.
  • Formal education in construction management, engineering, quantity surveying, or a related discipline.
  • Established relationships with subcontractors and suppliers in the Lower Mainland or Fraser Valley.
  • Experience supporting project handoff from estimating into operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the estimating department.
  • Manage, support, and develop a small team of estimators and estimating support staff.
  • Personally estimate the company’s larger and more complex commercial projects.
  • Review estimates and tender submissions prepared by other members of the team.
  • Establish clear estimating standards, expectations, processes, and quality controls.
  • Coordinate bid strategy, scope reviews, subcontractor coverage, pricing, and tender submissions.
  • Review drawings, specifications, addenda, contracts, and tender requirements.
  • Identify scope gaps, exclusions, assumptions, constructability concerns, and project risks.
  • Work with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain complete and competitive pricing.
  • Review unsuccessful bids and lead post-bid analysis to improve future results.
  • Work closely with business development, project management, and senior leadership.
  • Support the handoff of successful projects from estimating into operations.
  • Coach team members and provide practical technical guidance.
  • Improve accountability, consistency, and communication across the estimating department.
  • Help evaluate which opportunities align with the company’s capabilities, resources, and commercial objectives.
