Assistant Professor in the Division of Endodontics at the UBC Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral Biological and Medical Sciences
The University of British Columbia (UBC) Faculty of Dentistry is inviting applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Biological and Medical Sciences (OBMS), within the Division of Endodontics.
The Faculty seeks an exceptional clinician-scientist in endodontics with a strong and recent record of scholarly achievement to lead and advance research initiatives in clinically relevant applied science. The applicant must hold a PhD or be currently enrolled in a PhD training program in a relevant field. Research interests may include integrated antibiofilm and advanced irrigation strategies in endodontics, stimuli-responsive hydrogels for endodontic applications, and clinical endodontic studies.
Experience in research and development (R&D) and translational activities is desirable. Furthermore, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to join or collaborate closely with members of the Faculty’s existing research themes.
The successful candidate will supervise research trainees at all levels, including undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral students, and is expected to maintain a strong record of research productivity in the past five years in established journals. The candidate’s potential for obtaining external research funding will also be assessed.
Teaching responsibilities will include participation in both the undergraduate and graduate endodontic programs, encompassing didactic and clinical teaching, with an emphasis on scholarly teaching at the undergraduate level. The successful candidate will play a key role in the ongoing development of the DMD Endodontics curriculum and in fostering integration with other programs across the Faculty. Priority will be given to candidates with recent experience in undergraduate endodontic clinical teaching and simulation laboratory instruction in North America.
Applicants must have completed postgraduate training in Endodontics and be licensed (or eligible for licensure) with the British Columbia College of Oral Health Professionals (BCCOHP). Evidence of effective teaching, an excellent research portfolio, commitment to specialty advancement, and capacity for collegial collaboration are essential. Preference will be given to candidates whose expertise complements the Faculty’s current educational and research programs. The expected starting salary for this position is $170,000 per annum.
The appointee will hold a full-time faculty position at UBC, with salary and appointment status commensurate with qualifications and experience. UBC hires on the basis of merit and is strongly committed to equity and diversity within its community. We especially welcome applications from visible minority group members, women, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities and persons of minority sexual orientations. Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada are given priority.
