Position: In-House Architect / Design Lead (Prefab Systems)

In-House Architect / Design Lead (Prefab Systems)

We are transforming housing with CSA A-277 certified, factory-built modular homes. We manufacture high-performance living solutions, moving beyond traditional construction's inefficiencies to create a precision-engineered "kit of parts" that delivers quality, speed, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities
  • 1. The "Stamp" – Regulatory Leadership & Certification

    • Act as Coordinating Registered Professional for CSA A-277 submissions to certification bodies (Intertek, QAI, CSA)
    • Serve as ultimate authority on BC Building Code (Part 9 & Part
      3) compliance for factory production
    • Maintain valid AIBC registration and Certificate of Practice with our financial support
    • Stamp and sign off on Master Design packages and internal proprietary documents
  • 2. The "Product" – System Design & Manufacturing Optimization

    • Shift from "project design" to "product design"—refine our library of wall panels, connections, and modules for 100% factory assembly efficiency (DFMA)
    • Own and manage the Master Revit Model (BIM), ensuring digital twin matches physical output
    • Develop the standardized "Lego Kit" of details that enables rapid, error-free factory production
    • Research and integrate new materials, components, and methods to enhance system performance
  • 3. The "Project" – Implementation & Coordination

    • Liaise with external Structural Engineers and Geotechnical consultants for site-specific foundations
    • Create standardized "Permit Packs" for clients—pre-coordinated, compliant packages for municipal submission
    • Develop quality control protocols bridging factory production and site assembly
    • Coordinate with production team to continuously improve manufacturability
  • The Ideal Candidate Professional Requirements
    • Architect AIBC (currently registered or immediately eligible for BC registration)
    • 3-5 years in architectural practice, with at least 2 years in autonomous decision-making roles (Project Architect or Principal level)
    • Deep expertise in wood-frame residential construction (Part
      9) and multi-unit housing
    • Non-negotiable Revit proficiency with strong BIM management skills
    • Experience with CSA A-277, modular construction, or design-for-manufacturing approaches
    Mindset & Approach
    • You're tired of the traditional "fee-for-service" consulting model and want to build a tangible product
    • You understand that exceptional design in modern construction requires manufacturing intelligence
    • You're a systems thinker who finds elegance in standardization and repeatability
    • You're entrepreneurial, comfortable with structured professional independence, and understand the responsibilities of holding a seal
    Preferred Bonus Qualifications
    • Experience with parametric design tools (Rhino/Grasshopper, Dynamo)
    • Knowledge of Passive House, Step Code, or high-performance building standards
    • Background manufacturing, industrial design, or product development
    Compensation & Support
    • Base Compensation: $105,000 - $125,000 (commensurate with experience)
    • Practice Stipend:
Will cover AIBC fees, professional liability insurance, Certificate of Practice costs, and continuing education
    • Performance Bonus:
Annual incentive tied to system optimization metrics and certification milestones
    • Health Benefits:

Competitive medical, dental, and vision coverage
    • Tools & Resources:
Latest software, technology budget, and factory access
    Application Process
    • Please submit:
      • 2. Portfolio demonstrating technical proficiency and system-thinking (details over renderings)
      • o Your interest in product-based architecture versus project-based practice
      • o Your experience with regulatory compliance and code analysis
      • o Your perspective on manufacturing's role in architecture's future

Stackabl Homes is committed to transforming housing through innovation. We recognize that diverse perspectives drive breakthrough thinking. We encourage applications from architects with non-traditional backgrounds who understand that great design must also be great production.

This unique role bridges professional practice and manufacturing innovation—a chance to define what architecture means in the age of factory-built homes.
