• You will become part of a supportive physician community.
• Each care home works closely with an interdisciplinary team to provide holistic resident‑centered care.
• You have the opportunity to join the Long‑Term‑Care Initiative (LTCI) which includes the following:
  • Paid mentorship opportunities.
  • Participation in a self‑scheduling, paid, after‑hours care system (commitment of only one week of coverage per quarter; coverage is shared amongst the Vancouver LTCI practitioners).
  • Opportunities for paid participation in long‑term‑care‑specific events.
  • Opportunities to participate in LTC quality‑improvement projects and CME.
• You can develop and grow your skills in providing care for the frail elderly and transfer these skills to your work in community and hospital settings.
• Allows for flexibility in your schedule – supplement other family practice work with an LTC panel to add variety to your workday. You can work with the care home leadership to set the size of your panel and your availability for providing care.
• Caring for the frail elderly is both challenging and incredibly rewarding.

• There are a number of vacancies for long‑term care physicians, giving you greater opportunity to select the specific care home or area you would like to work in.
• With an ageing population, care of the frail elderly will become increasingly important in both community and long‑term care settings.

  Physicians commit to a formal relationship with a care home and receive additional funding. Responsibilities include regular proactive visits, on‑site medication reviews, attendance at care conferences, involvement in 24/7 on‑call, and completed documentation in charts.
• Remuneration Details: LTCI care home panels are remunerated through the LFP model or fee‑for‑service. Payments include:
• Participation in the after‑hours care program: $1,000 for weekday shifts (5 pm to 8 am Monday‑Thursday) and $1,400 for weekend shifts (5 pm Friday to 8 am Monday).
• Sessional payments for participation in mentorship activities, events, and quality‑improvement projects.
