This is a contract position from approximately May – August 2026.

The Canadian Cancer Society’s Camp Goodtimes provides children and youth affected by cancer and their families with an unforgettable overnight summer camp experience in a medically supervised, safe and supportive environment. We have been committed to providing a camping experience for children affected by cancer since 1985.

The Canadian Cancer Society believes that time spent at camp allows kids to just be kids, away from their diagnosis. Camp Goodtimes is proud to provide programming that gives joy, confidence, support, and hope for children with cancer and their families.

The Head Waterfront Program Leader under the direction of the Camp Director and Program Director oversee the waterfront operations at Camp Goodtimes. He/she/they is responsible for ensuring the safety and positive experience of all campers, volunteers, and staff on the waterfront and they ensure swimming and boating activities are upheld to the BCCA and CCS standards. He/She/They is responsible for the management of the Waterfront Program Leaders while on guard at the waterfront, overseeing the annual set-up and clean-up of the waterfront facility and overseeing the delivery of all waterfront programming.

This position is a member of the program leader team  program leader team is responsible for instructing camp activities and supporting other staff and volunteers in delivering programs. They will also have other daily responsibilities such as helping with supervision of campers, evening cabin support, facilitating early morning and evening programs, program logistics, and care/maintenance of camp program equipment.

COMMITMENT:

  • May 9, June 6, 7 training at Loon Lake Lodge and Retreat Centre, Maple Ridge, BC
  • June 12, 22-24 pre-camp prep at the Canadian Cancer Society office in Vancouver, BC
  • June 28 – August 2, 2026 – on-site living at camp for 6 sessions at Loon Lake Lodge and Retreat Centre, Maple Ridge, BC (at least 24 hours off each week). Meals and accommodation included.
  • August 8 – 27, 2026 – on-site living at camp for 4 sessions at Camp Pringle, Shawnigan Lake, BC (at least 24 hours off each week). Meals and accommodation included.

  • WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

  • Implement waterfront program

    Review Camp Goodtimes waterfront policy and procedures for both sites

    Have a strong understanding of the waterfront program plans for boating and swimming

    Work with the Camper Experience Coordinator and Medical Coordinator to implement inclusive program plans to meet the diverse needs of participants at the waterfront
  • Assist with developing and delivering innovative training that supports professional development of staff & volunteers. Ensure all staff are familiar with waterfront emergency procedures.
  • Ensure that all waterfront policies/procedures and Camp Goodtimes’ high risk management standards are always met by all participants, staff, volunteers, and guests while at the waterfront.
  • Communicate with the Program Director to understand the planning and scheduling of waterfront programs and events.
  • Train waterfront program leaders on the Camp Goodtimes waterfront emergency procedures.
  • Supervise waterfront program leaders
  • Facilitate camper-focused swimming and boating activities when required.
  • Assist in facilitating evening and all-camp programs when waterfront is not in use.
