In the senior school we offer the Middle Years Programme (MYP) to all students in Grades 6‑10, and the IB Diploma Programme (DP) to students in Grades 11 & 12. We offer a holistic programme to all students that consists of experiential opportunities for students to engage in learning in the arts, athletics, outdoor education, leadership roles, and community service.
Position Purpose & OverviewSJS is seeking a qualified and experienced IB Senior School Teacher & Diploma Programme (DP) Coordinator. The candidate is required to teach courses in MYP or DP preferred, based on experience, qualifications, need, and interest. The IB Senior School Teacher & DP Coordinator will be a collaborative member of the Senior School and will contribute to the development of the curriculum and teaching experiences chers at SJS are expected to exemplify excellent professional practice and high standards of teaching and learning.
The teacher will provide inclusive learning opportunities differentiated to the needs, abilities and stage of development of each student. The successful candidate will be adept at monitoring, measuring, documenting, and reporting on learning. The successful candidate supports student well‑being, participates in co‑curricular commitments of the school, and is reliable in exercising their daily responsibilities.
Typical responsibilities and duties are inclusive of, but not limited to:
Diploma Programme Coordinator IB Regulations- Ensure all regulations set by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) concerning programmes and procedures are carried out properly and all deadlines are met.
- Support students, teachers, and administration with meeting all requirements set by the Diploma Programme as outlined in the DP Assessment Procedures, DP Principles into Practice, DP General Regulations, and IB Programme Standards and Practices documents.
- Endorse the school’s mission, vision, and values.
- Model and promote the IB learner profile attributes and SJS values.
- Promote international mindedness, the attributes of the Learner Profile, Approaches to Learning, and Approaches to Teaching inside and outside the classroom.
- Host DP information sessions and orientations for parents and students.
- Communicate with the Advancement department about DP student activities and events.
- Prepare and monitor an annual budget. Submit a budget request to the school’s administration.
- Plan and administer the budget for the DP.
- Monitor expenditure of the budget throughout the curriculum year.
- Liaise with the IBO to ensure that all relevant fees are paid to the IBO regional office (exams, annual fees, etc.)
- Purchase and distribute IB publications and learning resources.
- Communicate concerns of teachers, parents, and students with the Senior School Principal.
- Liaise with the Registrar to ensure that all students registered for the DP are meeting provincial requirements for graduation.
- Participate in student related meetings.
- Work together with the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinators to ensure the IB Curriculum is delivered within the school.
- Coordinate with the MYP, PYP Coordinators, respective Principals and Vice‑Principals in the transition of students between programmes.
- Conduct the Provincial Assessments (support the Foundations Skills Assessments and Grade 10 Literacy and Numeracy examinations).
- Assist in completing, reviewing and writing reports for accrediting bodies.
- Participate in the Admissions Process for new DP students.
- With the assistance of the Advancement department, prepare promotional materials.
