In this volunteer program, you’ll develop skills in youth work and land-based education through training, mentorship, and hands‑on experience helping to deliver our Nature Stewards programs alongside EYA staff.
DescriptionWhat you’ll be doing:
Peer Mentors work alongside experienced EYA staff to run our land‑based education programs for high school‑aged youth in Strathcona Community Gardens and Renfrew Ravine. You bring your experience and passion, and we provide skill‑building workshops, one‑on‑one mentorship with an EYA educator, and opportunities to practice facilitation and group leadership. February 7th – May 4th, 2025.
Program structure- Skill‑building workshops:
Training weekend February 7th & 8th, then a mix of online and in person weekly Tuesday evening sessions from 5:00pm – 7:30pm (Feb 24, Mar 3, Mar 10, Mar 17, Mar 24, Mar 31, Apr 7, Apr 14, Apr 21, Apr 28). - Peer mentoring:
Weekly program support, 1 day/week from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. (days vary according to the program you are supporting; learn more about the programs at ). A portion also involves supporting 2 field trip programs (up to 3 hours) through our Wild Mind field trip program, which can be at varying days and times.
This program is open to youth ages 18 – 25 who identify as BIPOC, 2
SLGBTQIA+, and/or living with a disability.
Meals and bus tickets are offered on program days, and a living stipend is provided. This stipend will be sent upon program completion via e‑transfer and grocery gift card.
