Position: SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER (TEMPORARY, PART-TIME) Southridge School

Southridge is an independent day school located in South Surrey, BC with 696 students enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Position

Description

We are inviting applications for a part‑time temporary Social Studies (.60) Teacher in the Senior School. The term runs from December 15, 2025 to June 30, 2026. From December to April the role will be .20 FTE Social Studies and .40 FTE Internal Coverage Teacher; from April to June 12, 2026 the role will be .60 FTE Social Studies.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare and deliver core program requirements in Social Studies for Social Studies 9, AP Human Geography, and Human Geography 12, following the BC Ministry of Education curriculum and the Southridge Senior School Educational Plan.
  • Collaboratively plan within the department to develop and design consistent, well‑articulated programmes.
  • Assess and report on student academic progress and effort, drawing attention to areas of achievement and areas requiring further development.
  • Supervise and manage student deportment, including behaviour and adherence to uniform expectations.
  • Monitor students’ academic, co‑curricular, and personal growth as a homeroom advisor.
  • Attend and participate in core school functions and special events.
  • Participate in the co‑curricular programme of the school.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Education degree, with undergraduate studies in Social Studies.
  • Valid BC teaching certificate.
  • Knowledge of Harkness discussion‑based teaching and learning is an asset.
  • Experience teaching in a technology‑rich environment is an asset.
  • Co‑curricular coaching experience is valued.
  • Highly collegial and a collaborative team partner.
  • Advanced Placement experience is an asset.
  • Experience teaching at the Senior School level in an independent school environment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to establish connections with students and parents in the role of advisor.
  • Proven understanding of adolescent social and emotional needs.

Southridge offers a competitive salary that exceeds the Vancouver School District by 4%. The salary range for the .60 FTE position is $42,727.80 to $69,707.40, based on years of teaching experience and educational accomplishments.
