Position Overview
West Point Grey Academy is seeking a Physical & Health Education (PHE) Teacher & Coach to join the Junior School PHE Department on a term contract from August 28, 2026 to June 30, 2027. This leave‑replacement role is eligible for benefits coverage.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, deliver, and assess PHE courses for Kindergarten to Grade 7 aligned with the BC Physical & Health Education Curriculum.
- Design learning experiences that support physical literacy, healthy active living, social responsibility, and mental wellbeing.
- Maximize participation and potential of all learners, employing varied instructional and assessment strategies.
- Assess and report student learning in accordance with curriculum standards and school practices.
- Build strong, respectful, and trusting relationships with students and support their physical, social, and emotional wellbeing.
- Promote inclusion, safety, teamwork, and belonging across learning environments.
- Model positive attitudes toward active living, cooperation, and personal responsibility.
- Co‑curriculum:
Coach soccer and volleyball teams, participating in early mornings, late afternoons, and occasional evenings during peak periods. - Collaborate with colleagues within the PHE department and wider Junior School; participate in faculty and departmental meetings; engage in reflective practice and contribute positively to the professional community.
- Certified teacher with experience teaching Physical & Health Education to elementary‑level students.
- Strong coaching background in soccer and volleyball with age‑appropriate skill progression.
- Demonstrated ability to create inclusive, supportive learning environments for diverse learners.
- Excellent communication skills with students, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to balance classroom responsibilities with co‑curricular and community commitments.
- Commitment to student wellbeing, engagement, and safety.
