West Point Grey Academy is seeking a Physical & Health Education (PHE) Specialist Teacher to join our Junior School Physical Education Department on a term contract from August 28, 2026 to June 30, 2027. This leave‑replacement position is eligible for benefits coverage.

Our Junior School PHE Specialist Teachers are valued members of the faculty who work collaboratively within a student-centred department to design and deliver developmentally appropriate, engaging experiences aligned with the BC PHE curriculum (Kindergarten-Grade
7). This leave-replacement role offers the opportunity to join a supportive and well‑established team and to contribute meaningfully to a culture of wellbeing, inclusion, physical literacy, and joyful movement for young learners.
Ideal candidates bring strong knowledge of contemporary PHE curriculum, skills progression, and best practices, alongside a thoughtful and reflective approach to teaching, and a genuine enthusiasm for working with children. Successful educators create inclusive, safe, and engaging learning environments where students build confidence, foundational movement skills, and positive relationships with physical activity.

In your first year at WPGA, you'll be directly involved in:
Teaching & Curriculum- Planning, delivering, and assessing Junior School PHE courses (Kindergarten to Grade
7) in alignment with the BC Physical & Health Education Curriculum - Designing learning experiences that support physical literacy, healthy and active living, social responsibility, and mental wellbeing
- Maximizing the participation and potential of all learners, e mploying varied instructional and assessment strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Assessing and reporting on student learning in accordance with curriculum standards and school practices
- Building strong, respectful, and trusting relationships with students
- Supporting students’ physical, social, and emotional wellbeing through a holistic, student‑centred approach
- Promoting inclusion, safety, teamwork, and belonging across learning environments
- Modelling positive attitudes toward active living, cooperation, and personal responsibility
- Contributing to the co‑curricular life of the school, which may include athletics, clubs, outdoor education, or other student activities, based on skills and school needs
- Supporting and, where appropriate, coaching or assisting with athletic programs in at least two terms
- Recognizing that participation in co‑curricular programming may require work beyond the typical school day, including early mornings, late afternoons, or occasional evenings during peak periods of the school year
- Participating in school events, parent evenings, and community activities as part of faculty life
- Working collaboratively with colleagues within the PHE department and broader Junior School
- Participating in faculty and departmental meetings
- Engaging in reflective practice and contributing positively to the professional community throughout the term
