The BC Community Alliance (BCCA) is a Black-led, community-based organization established in 2019 and registered as a non-profit in 2020, dedicated to addressing structural inequities caused by systemic racism, particularly anti-Black racism in British Columbia's education system. BCCA was founded in response to a racist incident at Lord Byng Secondary School and aims to address the broader impact of racism felt by Black and racialized communities across the province.

With founding members and partners from various esteemed organizations, BCCA operates with a commitment to persistence, justice, and meaningful change. The organization continues to expand its advocacy efforts with the involvement of like-minded activists, professionals, and volunteers.

About the SSLP Venture Hub

The SSLP/Venture Program is a two-tiered, 9 week program that focuses on equipping students with the tools and knowledge they need to launch their own successful businesses as entrepreneurs. The program is aimed at minority youth, and is physically based out of our Fraser Street Studios space in Vancouver.

We are currently looking for paid speakers, facilitators, and mentors to support student participants during the program.

Foundational Tier

Tuesdays, 5pm - 7pm (Online)

Students build a strong foundation in entrepreneurship and advanced educational topics through hands‑on learning, culminating in a business or career proposal. They develop the mindset and skills to innovate responsibly, lead with integrity, and create positive social impact.

In the Builders Tier, students with established businesses / business plans, work with expert mentors, and engage in practical workshops to transform their concepts into launch‑ready enterprises grounded in strategy, sustainability, and well‑being. Builders Tier students are part of one of three streams:

Role Description

You can play a role in the SSLP/Venture Hub program by signing up to be a speaker, facilitator, and/or mentor. Please read about the different roles below and ensure that you understand and indicate your interest in the application form.

Speaker

Description: Speakers attend Foundational tier sessions (Tuesdays online) to give a presentation on their area of expertise as it pertains to our weekly curriculum topic.

Commitment: You can choose one weekly session that feels relevant to you. Each session runs from 5pm-7pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Create an engaging presentation for students pertaining to your area of expertise and the weekly topic from the curriculum. You are free to include interactive elements, activities, and materials
  • Share your presentation with our team ahead of time for approval
  • Sign our speakers contract outlining these responsibilities and general conduct guidelines
  • Be present during the Foundational session you sign up for from 5pm-7pm
Foundational Mentor

Description: Foundational Mentors attend select Foundational sessions (Tuesdays online) during "mentorship hours" to provide mentorship to students online, specifically regarding the creation of their ongoing business/career proposals. The goal is to support students as they work towards pitching themselves for the next cohort's Builders Tier.

Commitment: Being a mentor is an ongoing role that would require you to attend 4 Foundational sessions during the 9 week program, from 5-7pm online:

  • March 24th, April 14th, April 28th, May 5th

Responsibilities:

  • Help Foundational Tier students develop their ongoing business/career proposals which they will have the opportunity to pitch at the end of the program for the opportunity to enter the Builders Tier in the next cohort.
  • Expertise in areas such as career readiness, market research, and entrepreneurship are assets
  • Sign our speaker/mentor contract outlining these responsibilities and general conduct guidelines
  • Be present during the relevant 2-3 Foundational sessions, from 5pm-7pm
Facilitator

Description: Facilitators attend Builders Tier sessions (Sundays in‑person) to give a presentation on their area of expertise as it pertains to our weekly curriculum topic and facilitate a relevant workshop activity for students.
