We are seeking a dedicated SOGI Education Community Programs Manager to develop and manage community programs that expand on these efforts. In addition to CampOUT!, we are envisioning offering new camp experiences including Camp Us (an on-campus experience for 2

SLGBTQIA+ youth) and CampROOTS (an experience specifically for Indigenous 2

SLGBTQIA+ youth). A key expectation for this position is to assess community needs, update the existing programming for CampOUT! and create/develop new community programming for CampUS and CampROOTS. The SOGI Education Community Programs Manager will also be responsible for managing camp implementation, including operational planning, logistics, staffing, budget, fundraising, communications, community outreach, and program evaluation.

Organizational Status

The SOGI Education Community Programs Manager reports to the Associate Dean, Equity, and manages a team of seasonal and hourly staff that may include administrative support, camp coordinators, camp leaders, Work Learn students, and volunteers. This position interacts with the Dean’s Office (including Human Resources and the Finance Office), the Development and Alumni Relations (DAE) team, the Quartermain Centre for SOGI-Inclusive Excellence in Education, and faculty, staff, students and community partners in the Faculty of Education and UBC more broadly.

This position works primarily at the UBC Vancouver Campus but is expected to travel to community and camp locations off campus. Due to the nature of the position, this role may be required to work in the evenings and on weekends during periods when programs are being offered and as operationally required (for community activities and fundraising events, for instance). Time in lieu will be provided.

Relatedly, due to the nature of the work, vacations may be limited during certain times of the year.

Work Performed

Program Development and Administration:

  • Develop new community programming, including new camp experiences that have been envisioned as Camp Us, and CampROOTS, and update the existing programming for CampOUT! in response to the community needs, ensuring they align with the Faculty of Education’s mission of advancing inclusive educational environments in support of 2

    SLGBTQIA+ youth.

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate the community programs and services, in collaboration with faculty, staff and community partners.

  • Conduct community surveys to understand the needs to improve and evaluate program effectiveness.

  • Manage an annual budget for community and camp programs. Authorize expenses and ensure accountability for all revenues and expenditures.

  • Prepare a separate budget for each community program for approval. Plan and implement cost-saving measures without compromising program quality.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate administrative policies, procedures, and practices for the efficient operation and administration of programs and initiatives.

  • Carry-out full-cycle recruitment and management for short-term or seasonal staff, camp coordinators and camp leaders, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion. Liaise with the Dean’s Office HR team on the hiring in Workday.

  • Develop staff training initiatives to ensure effective delivery of the community programs and activities.

  • Manage and improve program applications and registration processes to remove barriers and encourage participation.
