Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated English Tutor to provide high-quality, in-person academic English instruction to students. This role focuses on developing students' academic writing, reading comprehension, and critical thinking skills essential for academic success. The ideal candidate will create engaging learning experiences that help students master complex academic English concepts and improve their overall language proficiency.

• Deliver personalized in-person English tutoring sessions focused on academic writing and comprehension
• Develop customized lesson plans tailored to individual student needs and academic goals
• Assess student progress through regular evaluations and provide constructive feedback
• Teach advanced grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure for academic contexts
• Guide students through essay writing processes, including thesis development, research integration, and citation methods
• Prepare students for standardized tests, college entrance exams, and academic assessments
• Collaborate with parents, teachers, and educational coordinators to support student success
• Maintain detailed records of student progress and session notes

• Bachelor's degree in English, Education, Linguistics, or related field
• Minimum 2‑5 years of experience in English tutoring or teaching
• Strong expertise in academic writing, literature analysis, and English grammar
• Proven track record of improving student academic performance
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to different learning styles
• Professional references from previous tutoring or teaching positions

• Master's degree in English, Education, or TESOL certification
• Experience working with diverse student populations and age groups
• Familiarity with various academic writing styles (APA, MLA, Chicago)
• Background in standardized test preparation (SAT, ACT, TOEFL, IELTS)
• Experience with learning disabilities and differentiated instruction
• Bilingual capabilities to support ESL students

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
• Knowledge of online research databases and academic resources
• Familiarity with educational technology and digital learning tools
• Understanding of plagiarism detection software
• Ability to create and format academic documents
• Experience with virtual meeting platforms for hybrid support

This English Tutor position offers competitive hourly compensation ranging from $25 to $40 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. The role is based in Vancouver, BC, and requires in-person instruction. Candidates should be prepared to work flexible hours to accommodate student schedules, including evenings and weekends.
