St. Joseph Catholic School in Vancouver, WA is seeking a full‑time Middle School Writing & Language Arts Teacher (Grades 6, 7, and

The role focuses primarily on writing instruction, grammar, language skills, and composition, while collaborating closely with the Middle School Literature Teacher to provide a comprehensive English Language Arts program.
- Knowledgeable in middle school writing, grammar, language conventions, and communication standards.
- Has experience teaching the writing process, including narrative, informative, argumentative, and research writing.
- Provides explicit instruction in grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, and revision strategies.
- Utilizes engaging instructional practices that help students develop confidence and proficiency as writers.
- Implements a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor student growth and guide instruction.
- Provides differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Collaborates effectively with colleagues, including the Middle School Literature Teacher, to ensure alignment across the ELA curriculum.
- Maintains strong classroom management and positive relationships with students and families.
- Integrates Catholic faith and values into all aspects of the school day.
- Is organized, caring, flexible, and committed to the mission of Catholic education.
- Teaching writing and language arts courses to students in grades 6–8.
- Designing and implementing standards‑based writing instruction.
- Assessing student writing and providing timely, meaningful feedback.
- Supporting student growth in grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, and written communication.
- Collaborating with the Literature Teacher, Learning Resource staff, and administration to support student success.
- Maintaining regular communication with families regarding student progress.
- Participating in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities.
The candidate must hold a current Washington State Teaching Credential and meet Archdiocesan Safe Environment Standards. Salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications. The budgeted salary range is $45,000–$65,000.
