Senior Library Public Service Associate - Information Services

Vancouver Public Library is the third largest public library system in Canada, serving more than 800 staff members and 21 locations across the city. It lends over 5 million items per year to the community.

We are looking for people with excellent customer service skills to deliver library services to diverse communities.

Job Summary: Working collaboratively within the team and system-wide, this position creates a welcoming, patron-centered experience through design, planning, and delivery of responsive information services at the central library. The incumbent delivers programs, reference services, and, under the guidance of a librarian, assists in planning library and literacy programs. They provide instruction and support to the public on using digital devices such as e-readers to access library resources.

The role involves community-led approaches, representing the library’s vision, mission and values, and ensuring patron satisfaction through flexible, inclusive service delivery.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must possess the Education/Qualifications/Experience in category 1 or category 2. For SLPSA, “considerable experience” equates to 3 cumulative years in one of the four categories: programming, information services, collection maintenance, community collaboration.

  • Completion of an approved Library Technician diploma program and 2 years of experience in a customer service environment.

OR

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree from a recognized university and two years experience in a customer service environment, and considerable experience in programming, information services, collection maintenance, and/or community collaboration.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of library methods, procedures and tools applicable to the work
  • Working knowledge of the objectives, organization, procedures, services and resources of the Library
  • Ability to participate in the planning and presentation, including public speaking and instruction, of library programs and projects
  • Ability to plan, organize and carry out assigned duties and responsibilities with supervision
  • Ability to participate in the maintenance of the library collection
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Pleasant and effective customer service skills

  • Schedule 2:
    Posted Part-Time (28.5 hours)
    • Monday: 12:40pm – 8:40pm (7)
    • Tuesday: 12:40pm – 8:40pm (7)
    • Saturday: 9:10am – 6:10pm (8)
    • Sunday: 10:40am – 6:10pm (6.5)
  • Schedule 3:
    Temporary Part-Time until November 5th, 2026* (20.5 hours)
    • Monday: 12:40pm – 8:40am (7)
    • Saturday: 10:00am – 6:00pm (7)
    • Sunday: 11:00am – 6:00pm (6.5)
