Position: Fashion Design Instructor (Sessional Faculty)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Program Director of Art and Design, the successful candidate will contribute to the growth of the department across Fashion Design programs. Faculty positions focus on academic leadership, administrative duties, community engagement, teaching and curriculum, and professional development.

  • Academic instructor leadership, administrative duties, and community engagement: demonstrate sensitivity and respect for diverse student backgrounds; enhance learning experience, provide mentorship and support students; complete administrative tasks (attendance, grades, academic integrity, etc.); facilitate academic accommodations; display commitment to administrative efficiency.
  • Community engagement: engage collegially with the broader community; observe classrooms, implement feedback; participate in faculty meetings, forums, and program reviews; engage with college, faculty, and students.
  • Teaching: teach a minimum of one and a maximum of five sections per term as assigned; demonstrate passion for student-centered teaching, plan and prepare classes; adhere to scheduled class times, maintain office hours, attend meetings; establish engaging classroom environment; manage academic policies; communicate promptly with students via LCV internal system, email, or conferencing tools; if applicable, schedule, supervise, debrief, and evaluate internship or work-integrated learning experiences;

    pursue teaching excellence.
  • Curriculum and quality assurance: design, develop, and deliver course curriculum including assignments, rubrics, handouts; facilitate student learning; evaluate learning outcomes; collaborate with faculty on program curriculum, standards, policies; support compliance with regulatory bodies (DQAB, PTIB); adhere to best practices.
  • Professional development: participate fully in the Faculty Development Review; stay current in academic or program discipline through memberships, conferences, workshops, MOOCs, or other continuing education; engage in LCV-sponsored development.
  • Other: maintain presence on campus with regular office hours; provide support as directed by Program Director or Chief Academic Officer; apply professional experience to enhance learning; foster a respectful and supportive workplace based on inclusion, equity, and diversity.

Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in design or related discipline (e.g., Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Jewellery Design).
  • Minimum of 3 years related and increasingly responsible experience in academics or industry.
  • Educational or teacher training or advanced certification preferred.
  • Excellent computer literacy and proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Microsoft Office 365.
