A full time load in the Department of Wood Science is 12 credits per term. A 3 credit course is .25 of a full time load, and 80% of a 3 credit course is .2 of a full time workload.

The Department of Wood Science is seeking to hire a part-time sessional lecturer for 26W - Term 2 (January 1 to April 30, 2027).

WOOD 282 (3 credits) Wood Physics and Mechanics at 80% (“physics” part = 80% of the course or 2.4 credits)

The expected salary for this position is $4,000 per credit prorated at 80%

Material to be specifically covered in the “physics” part of the course includes water properties, phase equilibria, phase changes and energies, water in the air, humidity, dew point, measuring methods, water in wood (free‑bound), equilibrium moisture content, fiber saturation point, water bonding sites, free vs. bound water, sorption process, sorption isotherms, hysteresis, wood density, specific gravity, porosity, dimensional changes, dimensional stabilization, capillary properties of wood, embolism, aspiration, collapse, permeability of wood, Darcy’s law, causes, and alleviation methods, specific heat of wood, thermal conductivity, Fourier’s law, thermal insulation, diffusion, steady-state, unsteady-state, Fick’s law, theory & applications, acoustical properties related to insulation and nondestructive evaluation, electrical properties of wood, moisture meters (resistance – capacitance), wood and light, wood and radiation.

The successful candidate will deliver core lectures, lead laboratory sessions, carry out exams, mark homework and lab reports, mentor teaching assistants, and keep office hours.

The candidate must have a solid background in wood physics and experience in running related experiments. The ideal candidate must have an undergraduate degree in Wood Science and have completed a Ph.D. in Forestry on the topic of wood physics.
