Job Summary: Working collaboratively within their team and system-wide, this position creates a welcoming, patron-centered experience through its involvement in the design, planning, and delivery of responsive information services at the central library. The incumbent delivers programs and reference services and under the guidance of a librarian, assists in the planning of a variety of library and literacy programs. This position provides instruction and support to the public on the use of digital devices such as e-readers to access library resources.
An incumbent in this role understands and practices community-led approaches and represents the Library’s vision, mission and values by demonstrating and modeling conduct that reflects the library’s policies and procedures. They work collaboratively with the ISV team to ensure that the public is engaged with our services and collections, and to support the online and in person delivery of services.
The incumbent is responsive and flexible, promotes social inclusion, and ensures that our patron’s information, entertainment and leisure needs are met at the point of need and in non-traditional ways, including being a stronger presence in the community, creating and collaborating with community partners to produce information packages and services that support patrons’ independent use of the library and staff facilitated interactions.
The incumbent works to create services that diverse communities identify as respectful, inclusive, and accessible.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must possess the Education/Qualifications/Experience in category 1 or category 2 listed below in order to be deemed as meeting minimum qualifications. For SLPSA, “considerable experience” equates to 3 cumulative years of experience in any one of the four categories (programming, information services, collection maintenance, community collaboration).
Education / Qualifications / Experience- Completion of an approved Library Technician diploma program and 2 years of experience in a customer service environment
- Completion of an undergraduate degree from a recognized university and two years experience in a customer service environment, and considerable experience demonstrated in an area such as programming, information services, collection maintenance, and/or community collaboration.
- Considerable knowledge of library methods, procedures and tools applicable to the work
