Secondary Humanities and PHE Teacher – Grade
10 at Trek Prince of Wales Secondary School, Vancouver School Board. Full‑time (1.0
FTE) with benefits. Candidates must be fully qualified. The role is situated in a diverse, inclusive, and equity‑focused system that values student well‑being and authentic learning.
Trek is a collaborative team‑teaching environment where teachers collaborate, integrate, and teach across subject areas. The successful candidate will have a strong background in group dynamics and leadership development, and a range of administrative skills such as budget planning and financial management. Experience in outdoor leadership is essential. This is a full‑time position; part‑time loads are not available. All TREK teachers share field study responsibilities, including overnight duties.
Responsibilities- Teach secondary humanities, physical & health education, and social studies across Grade
10. - Develop and deliver interdisciplinary lessons and curriculum aligned with the province’s standards.
- Plan and lead outdoor expeditions and field studies, including overnight camping trips, with an emphasis on safety, risk management, and Indigenous land stewardship.
- Maintain detailed trip logs documenting activity, location, trip days, and leadership capacity.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support student learning, well‑being, and belonging.
- Participate in school and district committees relating to curriculum, assessment, and professional development.
- Bachelor of Education and BC Teaching Certificate (TRB).
- Teacher Qualification Service registration.
- Experience teaching Secondary Social Studies, English, or PHE, and leading outdoor activities such as kayaking, canoeing, cycle touring, back‑country skiing, rock climbing, or other relevant skills.
- Certification in Advanced Backcountry First Aid, CPR‑C, or willingness to obtain.
- BC Class2 driver’s licence or willingness to acquire.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑teaching environment.
- Strong communication and administrative skills.
- Willingness and ability to obtain required outdoor certifications.
