Secondary Humanities and PHE Teacher – Grade 10 TREK

POSITION DETAILSTREK is a collaborative team‑teaching environment. In addition to the qualifications below, the successful candidate will have a strong background in group dynamics and leadership development. A range of administrative skills, such as budget planning and financial management, are an asset for the TREK position. Due to the nature of the TREK program, gender will be a consideration. Because all teachers collaborate, integrate, and teach across subject areas, experience and/or qualifications and willingness to teach all subjects are necessary.
Applicants must submit a detailed trip log describing specific outdoor activity/location, number of trip days, and leadership capacity (person, lead or assistant guide). Include any outdoor certifications section as part of this log.
QUALIFICATIONS- Completion of a Bachelor of Education
- Education and/or successful experience teaching Secondary Social Studies/English/PHE
- Experience teaching and/or leading and/or guiding in the outdoors – leading backcountry expeditions for youth; professional guiding; teaching outdoor skills in ocean kayaking, canoeing, cycle touring, back‑country (telemark) skiing, rock climbing, Leave‑No‑Trace, map & compass, and trip planning/risk management, etc.
- Certification in Advanced Backcountry First Aid or equivalent (or willingness and ability to get certified)
- CPR‑C Certification (or willingness and ability to get certified)
- BC Class 2 Driver's license (or willingness and ability to obtain one)
- BC Teaching Certificate
- Registration with the Teacher Qualification Service
- Cover letter

- Detailed trip log – specific outdoor activity/location, number of trip days, leadership capacity
- Three professional references – names, email addresses, and phone numbers of your last three administrators. Colleagues, friends, and family are not accepted.
- Work VISA or PR Card, if you are not a Canadian citizen

- Reports/Evaluations
- Recent graduates – your Final Practicum Reports. Do not include lesson observations or mid‑term reports.
- Experienced teachers – a Teaching Evaluation completed within the past 8 years.
- BC Teaching Certificate (TRB) – if your application is in process, include a screenshot.
