Secondary Humanities and PHE Teacher – Grade 10 TREK

TREK is a collaborative team‑teaching environment. In addition to the qualifications below, the successful candidate will have a strong background in group dynamics and leadership development. A range of administrative skills, such as budget planning and financial management, are an asset for the TREK position. Due to the nature of the TREK program, gender will be a consideration. Because all teachers collaborate, integrate, and teach across subject areas, experience and/or qualifications and willingness to teach all subjects are necessary.

Applicants must submit a detailed trip log describing specific outdoor activity/location, number of trip days, and leadership capacity (person, lead or assistant guide). Include any outdoor certifications section as part of this log.

• Completion of a Bachelor of Education
• Education and/or successful experience teaching Secondary Social Studies/English/PHE
• Experience teaching and/or leading and/or guiding in the outdoors – leading backcountry expeditions for youth; professional guiding; teaching outdoor skills in ocean kayaking, canoeing, cycle touring, back‑country (telemark) skiing, rock climbing, Leave‑No‑Trace, map & compass, and trip planning/risk management, etc.
• Certification in Advanced Backcountry First Aid or equivalent (or willingness and ability to get certified)
• CPR‑C Certification (or willingness and ability to get certified)
• BC Class 2 Driver's license (or willingness and ability to obtain one)
• BC Teaching Certificate
• Registration with the Teacher Qualification Service

  • Experienced teachers – a Teaching Evaluation completed within the past 8 years.
