Crofton House School is seeking an exceptional Ministry Certified Kindergarten teacher to work with a team of educators in our Junior Kindergarten program. The role supports the positive growth and development of young girls in the Early Childhood Education Centre’s two‑year Kindergarten program. The play‑based approach to teaching and learning is guided and enhanced by a student‑centred, collaborative and inquiry‑based focus to deepen learning for young students.
This is a one year contract to cover a maternity leave.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with a dynamic team of teachers and early childhood educators to co‑construct and deliver a high‑quality Junior Kindergarten program.
- Work closely with a second Ministry Certified teacher to lead all aspects of learning within the JK classroom, with support from three ECE Educators.
- Prioritise play as a foundation for learning, integrating it into all aspects of teaching.
- Plan outdoor learning experiences that make full use of the campus to support physical and cognitive development.
- Use thoughtful documentation and assessment strategies to reflect on student learning and growth, including tracking progress with See Saw.
- Enhance the learning experience for all students by working closely with the Learning Resource team to plan appropriate supports.
- Build strong partnerships with parents through daily communication, termly reports, and regular in‑person meetings.
- Contribute to the wider Junior School community by participating in co‑curricular programming.
- Engage actively in professional development opportunities, including joining a Professional Learning Community and collaborating with colleagues to improve teaching practices and student outcomes.
- Draw inspiration from educational research such as Costa and Kallick’s Habits of Mind, Harvard Project Zero’s Making Thinking Visible, and Debora Macnamara’s Rest, Play, Grow to enhance teaching practice.
- B.C. Ministry of Education Teaching Certification (required)
- Early Childhood Educator or Education Assistant Certificate (desirable)
- A deep understanding of play‑based learning and its role in child development.
- Experience leveraging outdoor environments for meaningful learning.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
- Creativity, flexibility, and patience in supporting young learners.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to fostering safe, caring spaces for children.
- Familiarity with the unique learning styles of girls and a capacity to innovate in meeting their needs.
Classes begin in September 2026 following teacher orientation in late August 2026.
Employees receive competitive compensation and support for professional, educational, and leadership development. Applicants must be able to legally work in Canada and hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate. Applications will be reviewed as soon as they are received.
Annual Compensation: $69,541 – $123,242 depending on experience and education level.
