Lead Campus Professional – Simon Fraser University (SFU) Hillel BC Purpose of the Role

The Lead Campus Professional at Simon Fraser University is Hillel BC's primary presence on a campus where Jewish student life is still taking shape. This role exists to build relationships, foster community, and empower students to explore their Jewish identities in a welcoming and inclusive environment. The Lead Campus Professional meets students where they are—in residence halls, campus spaces, and everyday moments—and helps them create meaningful experiences rooted in Jewish culture, tradition, and connection.

This is a hands‑on, entrepreneurial role suited to someone energized by one‑on‑one relationship building, comfortable working independently, and committed to creating something meaningful from the ground up. You will be the first face many students see when they're looking for connection, and your work will help students feel at home, take initiative, and grow as leaders.

How the Role Fits

The Lead Campus Professional reports to the Director of Student Life and works closely with Hillel BC's programming and operations teams to ensure students at SFU are supported and engaged. This role is primarily campus-based, with the majority of time spent at SFU and occasional presence required at other mainland campuses including Langara and Emily Carr.

The Lead Campus Professional does not manage staff but collaborates with students and colleagues to develop programs, build community, and bring the student voice into Hillel BC's broader work.

Core Responsibilities – Student Engagement & Relationship Building
  • Develop one‑on‑one relationships with Jewish students by meeting them where they live, work, and study.
  • Use creative and proactive methods to engage students in Jewish life, from tabling on campus to grabbing coffee to welcoming students at events.
  • Connect with students from diverse backgrounds through meaningful conversations and opportunities to participate in Jewish life on campus.
  • Guide students in exploring their Jewish identities and help them feel seen, valued, and connected to community.
Program Development & Student Leadership
  • Collaborate with students and colleagues to develop and deliver 9–12 programs annually that reflect student interests, identities, and Jewish journeys.
  • Inspire students to take initiative by supporting the creation of new, student‑led programs and events.
  • Encourage and mentor students to develop projects that reflect their passions and strengthen their leadership capacity.
  • Connect regularly and mentor student leaders, Jewish campus club presidents, and student interns to maintain club activity and grow student involvement on campus.
  • Foster a warm, welcoming Jewish campus community where students feel empowered to lead and grow.
Campus Presence & Community Building
  • Maintain a consistent and visible presence on the SFU campus, building trust and familiarity with students over time.
  • Represent Hillel BC at campus events, student fairs, and community gatherings to raise visibility and strengthen relationships.
  • Work to create inclusive spaces where every student feels welcome, regardless of background or prior Jewish engagement.
  • Support students through the realities of campus life, including navigating identity, belonging, and the challenges of the current campus climate.
Collaboration & Organizational Contribution
  • Actively contribute to shaping Hillel BC's work by engaging students at SFU and bringing the student perspective into organizational planning.
  • Work closely with the Director of Student Life and the broader Hillel BC team to ensure alignment and support across campuses.
  • Maintain clear records of student engagement, program outcomes, and campus activity to support reporting and organizational learning.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional development opportunities, and organizational initiatives as needed.
What Success Looks Like
  • Students at SFU feel connected to Jewish life and to each other, with a growing sense of community and belonging.
  • Programs are well attended, student‑led initiatives are taking root, and students are stepping into leadership roles.
