Educational Assistant

St. Lawrence School is located in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and we are seeking an enthusiastic educational assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate should be a passionate educator with strong organizational skills and robust knowledge of helping students with special needs. The candidate will be part of a collaborative teaching team, where strong verbal and written communication skills are needed to effectively communicate with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.

All faculty and staff rence School share an enthusiasm for making a positive and uplifting impact on our young students.

The successful candidate will have completed a formal Educational Assistant and Inclusion (EAI) certificate. Other relevant training includes graduates from an Educational Assistant (EA) or a Classroom and Community Support (CCS) program. We also welcome candidates who possess a strong interest, related experience, or relevant training, coupled with a genuine willingness to learn and grow in this field of supporting students with diverse needs.

Candidates must be positive role models and demonstrate high moral standards for students, as fitting for a staff member at an academic-oriented, independent school in British Columbia. The chosen candidate will be expected to assist teachers and administrators on a daily basis in delivering activities and supervising students. They will assist students in reaching their goals, support the instruction of lessons, maintain supportive relationships, and contribute to the extracurricular life of the school.

St. Lawrence School – Vancouver, BC

Position:
Full-time support Position (7‑8 hours per day)

Compensation Package: $25‑30 per hour

Start Date:

Classes begin in September 2026

Students: 1 diverse needs student at the high school level

Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications
  • Committed to educational excellence.
  • Works with teachers to understand classroom management structure, behaviour support plan, and expectations of students.
  • Connects with students and works to understand their needs, interests and concerns. Helps students to recognize their own emotions and the emotions and needs of others. Helps students to self‑regulate behavior.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written, with internal and external community members.
  • Understanding of other cultures and the ability to communicate in cross‑cultural environments.
  • Ability to be tactful, demonstrate excellent judgment, and work as a positive and collaborative team member.
  • Facilitates math and reading activities and oversees the completion of related work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, teachers, parents, staff and community members.
  • Ability to identify and assist students with emotional and other health concerns.
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, a self‑starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Assists in developing, arranging and supervising curricular and extra‑curricular activities within and outside the school including field trips.
  • Assists with assessing student progress and reports to classroom Teacher.
  • Well‑organized, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • A willingness to follow the school's policies and procedures.
  • Enjoy leadership in extra‑curricular student‑based activities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and other educational technology.

Training, Education, Experience
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Education Assistant (EA, EAI or CCS) or related certification is an asset.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a teaching assistant or similar role is an asset.
  • Experience developing learning activities for children and youth.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector).
