This position is responsible for teaching students in an assigned field of study using a diverse set of instruction methods and tools. The position develops curriculum, prepares teaching materials, and provides assessments of students' progress. It ensures the proper stewardship of college facilities, equipment, and other inventories. The position is also responsible for upholding the College’s policies and procedures and for participating in meetings and events and on committees.

Responsibilities

Teaches students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, shop sessions, seminars, case study, field assignments and independent or group projects.

Develops curriculum and prepares teaching materials and outlines for courses including audio visual and web related materials where appropriate.

Prepares, administers and marks papers, tests, exams and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students' progress. Provides detailed feedback on student performance.

Assists and provides support to students and potential students by advising on program curricula and career decisions.

Provides individualized or group tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it.

Maintains effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software and tools.

Arranges for and supervises independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work or hands‑on training.

Adheres to VCC policies and procedures including being available to students and maintaining confidentiality of student information.

Participates in departmental and college meetings and events. Consults with other College departments and may serve on committees concerning matters such as budgets, curriculum revision and course and certificate or diploma requirements.

Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum five years of recent relevant working experience in the Visual Communications industry.
Minimum of two years formal training in a field related to the classes to be taught, such as Web Design & Development, UX/UI and Interaction Media.

C. Provincial Instructor's Diploma or equivalent, or willingness to complete the .
(Preferred) Experience in instruction or formalized education process, preferably in a postsecondary or college institution is an asset.
(Preferred) Membership in a professional association tied to area of instruction, such as Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) is an asset.

Courses are taught on weekdays, between 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. Delivery includes in-person instruction on campus at VCC Downtown two days per week, with one course delivered asynchronously online.
