Professor in Bacteriophage Biology & Evolution at University of British Columbia

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is inviting applications for a Professor in Bacteriophage Biology & Evolution at its Vancouver campus in Canada. The position is a joint appointment between the Department of Microbiology & Immunology and the Michael Smith Laboratories.

The successful candidate will lead an innovative, externally funded research program focused on bacteriophage biology, bacteria-phage interactions, microbial evolution, bacterial immunity, and antimicrobial resistance.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Develop an innovative and internationally competitive research program.
• Obtain external research funding.
• Supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in microbiology.
• Establish interdisciplinary collaborations within UBC.
• Contribute to departmental, institutional and scientific service.
• Support an inclusive and welcoming research and learning environment.
• Participate in the broader academic and scientific community.

Applicants must have:

• A PhD in a relevant field.
• Postdoctoral research experience.
• A strong record of research achievements.
• Significant publications in bacteriophage biology, microbial evolution, microbiology or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated research excellence.
• The ability to develop an externally funded and internationally competitive research program.
• Experience or potential in graduate and undergraduate teaching.
• A strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
