Purpose of Position

This in-school instructor works one-to-one with school-aged (Kindergarten to
7) learners, delivering individualized and comprehensive learning support that is neuroaffirming, strengths-based, and evidence-based.

Principal

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Deliver one-to-one instruction in math and literacy at K-7 levels, primarily out of an in-school placement in Vancouver (in Shaughnessy, near Oak St and King Edward Ave), both in-person and live online
  • Represent the organization as the only team member in the school
  • Create and maintain a learning environment that is neuroaffirming, strengths-based, and enjoyable for all learners
  • Identify learner strengths and challenges through informal and formal assessment
  • Draw from multiple resources and curricula, develop and implement year-long learning plans and daily lesson plans for your assigned learners that are individualized, neuroaffirming, strength-based, evidence-based, technology-enhanced and linked to measurable learning goals
  • Provide formal and informal written progress reports, with or without the use of assistive technology
Requirements & Competencies

Successful candidates for the instructor rolehave the ability to perform the above-listed principal roles and responsibilities with minimal to moderate support. This typically requires the following experience and competencies.

  • For our in-school placement:
    Experience and comfort working and integrating into a faith-based Elementary School environment; experience in an independent school is an asset
  • Experience working with school-aged children with diagnosed or suspected learning differences
  • Experience in strengths-based, neuroaffirming learning environments and/or a demonstrated eagerness and ability to quickly adapt to this type of environment
  • Experience as an Elementary-level generalist in math and literacy instruction for K-7
  • Experience using structured, systematic, and explicit instructional approaches
  • Experience teaching the following: literacy concepts using a structured literacy/Science of Reading approach, math focused on building conceptual understanding, and support for executive functioning, sensory processing, or social-emotional learning.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with or without the use of assistive technology
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Demonstrated commitment to our charitable mission
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Ability to provide a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Eligibility to work in Canada
