As an Intermediate Fluvial Geomorphologist, you will contribute to a wide variety of projects and provide expert advice on the interactions of natural systems with the built environment. The successful candidate will be joining a group of more than 25 geomorphologists at NHC who support existing projects and independent project work. Applicants should be prepared to demonstrate well developed analytical and critical thinking skills and describe how their training and experience has prepared them for this role.
Responsibilities:- Plan, coordinate, and execute field campaigns to support hydrogeomorphological investigations and studies
- Handle and interpret data from various sources to perform analyses of sediment transport, sediment budgets, sediment management plans, stream mobility, bank and shoreline erosion, and landform evolution
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide professional advice and guidance on fluvial geomorphology issues in river management and restoration projects, taking into account ecological and hydrotechnical requirements
- Act as project manager for hydrogeomorphology and multidisciplinary studies and projects by providing team leadership, mentoring, budget and schedule monitoring, invoicing, and client relations
- Prepare and write technical and expert reports, including the production of figures and maps to illustrate and interpret the results of various analyses
- Participate in the development of professional service offerings and the company’s business development.
- Stay informed about research, advancements, and best practices in fluvial geomorphology and related fields, and participate in technical development (R&D)
- Work in a leading company with an international reputation spanning over 50 years, on specialized projects that go beyond the typical scope of engineering firms

Qualifications:
- Masters degree or PhD in physical geography, earth sciences, or related field with a focus on fluvial geomorphology
- Comfortable working in remote locations and inclement weather conditions (demonstrated through professional experience or recreational pursuits)
- Excellent communication skills, including report writing and the ability to present to technical and non-technical groups, stakeholders, and communities
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a professional engineer or geoscientist in BC
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fluvial geomorphology demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of riverine landscapes and how geomorphology integrates with hydrotechnical engineering
- Ability to apply geomorphological principles and theories to hazard, land-use planning, or restoration issues
- Ability to critically assess data, results, and different intervention options
- Experience with field survey and inventory techniques and instruments
- Knowledge of fluvial sediment transport processes; knowledge of hillslope processes an asset
- Advanced skills in statistical and quantitative data analysis
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and GIS software for spatial analysis and mapping
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, committed to technical excellence
- Ability to work collaboratively and openness to learning new knowledge in a multidisciplinary environment
- Proactive, resourceful, and adaptable, able to thrive in dynamic and diverse project environments
