Position: Senior Robotic Test Engineer )

Senior Test Engineer (Robotic) – Vancouver

Humanoid is the first AI and robotics company in the UK, creating the world’s most advanced, reliable, commercially scalable, and safe humanoid robots. Our first humanoid robot HMND 01 is a next‑gen labour automation unit, providing highly efficient services across various use cases, starting with industrial applications.

Our Mission

At Humanoid we strive to create the world’s leading, commercially scalable, safe, and advanced humanoid robots that seamlessly integrate into daily life and amplify human capacity.

Vision

In a world where artificial intelligence opens up new horizons, our faith in its potential unveils a new outlook where, together, humans and machines build a new future filled with knowledge, inspiration, and incredible discoveries. The development of a functional humanoid robot underpins an era of abundance and well‑being where poverty will disappear, and people will be able to choose what they want to do.

We believe that providing a universal basic income will eventually be a true evolution of our civilization.

Solution

As the demands on our built environment rise, labour shortages loom. With the world’s workforce increasingly moving away from undesirable tasks, the manufacturing, construction, and logistics industries critical to our daily lives are left exposed. By deploying our general‑purpose humanoid robots in environments deemed hazardous or monotonous, we envision a future where human well‑being is safeguarded while closing the gaps in critical global labour needs.

Position Overview

We are looking for a detail‑oriented and hands‑on Robotic Test Engineer to lead the testing, validation, and reliability assurance of advanced actuator systems, robotic mechanisms, grippers, and robotic hands used in our next‑generation humanoid and manipulation platforms.

You will work closely with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to develop robust test frameworks, build automated rigs, and execute functional, stress, and long‑term validation tests to ensure our robots perform reliably under real‑world conditions.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, plan, and execute test procedures for actuators, mechanisms, grippers, and robotic hands.
  • Build and maintain test fixtures and test rigs for dynamic and endurance testing.
  • Develop automated test systems (hardware + software) to validate motor performance, force output, backdrivability, and safety limits.
  • Conduct lifecycle, stress, thermal, and environmental tests on components and subsystems.
  • Analyze test results, create test reports, and drive design feedback loops with engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to define testable requirements, tolerances, and performance metrics.
  • Support incoming QC, assembly‑level verification, and field failure diagnostics.
  • Maintain test documentation, protocols, and results databases.
  • Work closely with control and firmware teams to evaluate actuator behavior in closed‑loop scenarios.
We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in robotic hardware testing, ideally in actuator or end‑effector validation.
  • Hands‑on experience with motor testing, force/torque sensors, encoders, and thermal monitoring.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems (DAQ) and tools such as LabVIEW, Python, or MATLAB.
  • Proficient with test automation frameworks and basic scripting (Python preferred).Comfortable with mechanical tools, instrumentation, and prototyping in lab environments.
  • Strong understanding of safety testing, failure modes (FMEA), and reliability analysis.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
Nice To Have
  • Experience with robotic grippers and multi‑DOF hands (tendon‑driven, underactuated, or force‑controlled).
  • Familiarity with torque control, backdrivable actuators, or custom brushless motor design.
  • Knowledge of Ether

CAT, CAN, or other motion communication protocols.
  • Exposure to finite element analysis (FEA) or mechanical stress simulation.
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary plus participation in our Stock Option Plan
  • Paid vacation with adjustments based on your location to comply with local labor laws
  • Travel opportunities to our London and Boston offices
  • Office perks: free lunches
  • Freedom to influence the product and own key initiatives
  • Collaboration with top‑tier engineers, researchers, and product experts in AI and robotics
  • Startup culture prioritising speed, transparency, and minimal bureaucracy.
