Matchbox Consulting Group is teaming up with one of North America's most well respected electrical utilities and multi-service providers to look for a Chief Estimator with a background in electrical estimating.
The Chief Electrical Estimator will be responsible for all aspects of electrical estimating and will ensure adherence to B&M policies and procedures relating to the estimating process. The Chief Electrical Estimator will direct and mentor other members of the Electrical estimating team, and work collaboratively with other departments on estimating projects. The Chief Electrical Estimator will also liaise with customers to ensure continuity of work opportunities and with vendors to maintain competitiveness within the industry.
- Manage day to day operations of the Electrical Estimating department
- Direct and mentor estimating staff
- Prepare estimates of cost of materials, labour and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications.
- Advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards and participate in negotiations.
- Establish and maintain tendering process, set up cost monitoring, reporting systems and procedures.
- Coordinates price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers and architects regarding tenders.
- Participates in site review, tender review, tender hand-off, project closing and operational/sector meetings with the Senior Mechanical Estimator, Project Managers and Division Manager as required
- Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
- Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
- Conduct material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs.
- Keep abreast of new technology within the electrical contracting industry to ensure that all estimates include for the most up to date construction methods & procedures
- Maintain an industry presence to ensure continuity of work now and in the future

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Completion of a Degree or Diploma in Construction Engineering Technology/Construction Management is an asset
- Experience as a qualified tradesperson within the commercial construction industry may substitute for education requirements.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 10-15 years of estimating experience, with experience as a Chief Estimator or Senior Electrical Estimator, preferably in the commercial construction industry
- Candidates with project management experience is a definite asset
- Experience with design build projects is an asset
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Proficient with recognized estimating software is highly preferred (i.e. Accubid, Trimble, etc.)
- Proficient user of MS Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Proficient knowledge and strong understanding of established Construction best practices
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Willing and able to travel within the Greater Vancouver area for site visits as needed
- Clean Class 5 BC Drivers’ license and abstract
