Hydrotechnical Engineer
Locations:
Vancouver, Toronto, Sudbury, Fredericton.
We are looking for a hydrotechnical engineer to apply critical thinking in the management of mine waste and water. The role will involve working with the latest versions of software, designing hydrotechnical components, and incorporating climate‑change resiliency, among other duties.
Responsibilities- Work with the latest versions of software, including Gold Sim, PCSWMM, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, Flow‑2D/3D.
- Model mine site‑wide water balance and water quality (with the opportunity to use Gold Sim).
- Design hydrotechnical components of tailings storage facilities for global mining projects.
- Incorporate climate‑change resiliency in hydrotechnical design.
- Contribute to risk assessments, Dam Safety Reviews, and risk‑informed decision making.
- Engage with clients, colleagues and suppliers on environmentally focused field programs and design solutions.
- Lead less experienced staff through the methodologies of design solutions.
- Build client rapport as projects progress from feasibility through to mine closure.
- A degree in civil engineering (master’s degree considered an asset).
- At least ten years of civil design experience related to surface water controls for mining projects.
- Eligibility to register as a professional engineer in Canada.
- Experience in hydrotechnical design analyses (e.g., water balance, open‑channel flow, erosion protection).
- Ability to build relationships and lead multidisciplinary project‑based teams.
- Passion for collaborating with clients and colleagues; fostering long‑term relationships.
- Enhanced communication skills, including experience in writing technical reports and general project correspondence.
- Experience in a safety‑focused environment with near‑miss and incident‑reporting requirements.
- Creative solution‑finding and presentation skills.
- Willingness to mentor others and be mentored.
- Ability to build rapport with clients, colleagues, and industry partners.
- Flexibility and focus on solutions rather than problems.
- Willingness to travel and undertake fieldwork.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Salary: $120,000 to $150,000 per year, based on applicable experience, education, and skill level.
