Work Arrangement: Full‑time physical presence at the NRC work location identified. Indigenous candidates may be eligible for an exception to this work arrangement. Alternative arrangements may be considered to accommodate candidates as required.

The role
  • Design, build, and implement microgrid systems, in collaboration with the project team.
  • Specify and integrate various microgrid hardware, software, and/or complete systems.
  • Help develop test plans, execute them, and collect characterization and performance results using customized data acquisition and visualization tools.
  • Safely install, operate, and maintain microgrid components and systems, prepare and follow standard operating procedures, participate in related hazard prevention program studies, and investigate microgrid operational issues and optimization strategies.
  • Help coordinate contractors and NRC common services to install and maintain microgrid and related lab infrastructure.
  • Create test reports of raw and analyzed data for the project team, present results as needed.

Screening Criteria

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related engineering discipline and minimum 3 years relevant work experience.
  • Diploma and minimum 5 years relevant work experience.

Experience

  • Experience in design, build, operating, and maintaining microgrid systems and components.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in hands‑on field work including working with vendors, technology suppliers, and trades staff.
  • Experience working with single and 3‑phase engine generator sets, battery energy storage systems, wind turbine generators, photovoltaic arrays, and their respective inverter technologies.
  • Experience creating and following preventative maintenance plans for various components, and developing performance monitoring strategies for complex systems.

Asset Experience

  • Experience with industrial equipment, PLC control systems, and safety systems is highly desirable.
  • Additional qualifications such as diplomas from related technical programs, and/or Millwright experience is an asset.

Condition of Employment

  • Reliability Status. Verification of background information over a period of 5 years is required.

  • Strong knowledge of applying CSA workplace safety codes and standards.
  • Practical knowledge of how microgrid components such as gas and diesel engines, 3‑phase generators, batteries, fuel cells, thermal storage, PV inverters, HVAC, and fire suppression operate and are integrated.
  • Knowledge in design, installation, and commissioning of microgrid systems and components at different scales (e.g. 10 kW to 1 MW).
  • Demonstrated capability in synthesizing test data and generating high‑quality technical reports suitable for peer review and/or delivery to industrial clients.

From $66,126 to $91,012 per annum.
