Overview
Senior Fire Protection & Life Safety Consultant
Key Responsibilities- Identify and assess building code and life safety issues on complex projects
- Interpret and apply applicable building codes, bylaws, and related standards
- Develop alternative solutions and performance-based approaches to demonstrate compliance
- Document compliance strategies through written reports and code compliance drawings
- Lead engagement with architects, engineers, developers, and enforcement authorities
- Guide projects through design, approvals, and construction administration phases
- Attend and lead project meetings with clients, consultants, and authorities having jurisdiction
- Conduct site visits and field reviews to support compliance during construction
- Manage project scope, schedules, and deliverables
- Build and maintain strong, long-term client and industry relationships
- Mentor and train junior staff, providing technical guidance and support
- Contribute to internal knowledge sharing, consistency, and continuous improvement
- Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or post-secondary education with equivalent experience in a related field (Environmental Design, Architectural Technology, or similar)
- 7+ years of experience in a Building Code Consulting role
- Extensive experience applying building code compliance approaches, including alternative solutions and performance-based methods
- Extensive experience engaging with AEC project teams, leading design coordination, approvals, and construction administration
- Proven experience working with enforcement authorities to implement fire protection and life safety regulations and standards
- Demonstrated experience in project management
- Proficiency with CAD
- Ability to prepare and review code compliance drawings and technical documentation
- Strong understanding of the integration of fire protection and life safety requirements within complex building systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities
- Excellent interpersonal and client relationship skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a leadership role
- High standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity
- A genuine drive to mentor others and contribute to better buildings and safer communities
- Ability to travel for meetings and site visits
- Valid driver’s license
