Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Overview

Senior Geotechnical Engineer position at Tetra Tech located in Vancouver, BC. Salary range $130K to $190K per annum.

• Develop sound technical solutions to lead the design and evaluation of challenging geotechnical applications, including foundations in seismically sensitive environments, deep foundations, shallow foundations, soft/compressible soils, steep slopes, and other issues across BC and Western Canada.
• Lead seismic deformation assessments, evaluating settlements, lateral deformations, and their effects on foundations.
• Prepare technical letters and reports and help clients understand options, risks, benefits, and opportunities.
• Participate in the development of proposals and pursuits for small to very large projects.
• Supervise and mentor junior and intermediate staff members and co‑op students.
• Plan resources, schedules, and manage projects to remain on budget and on time.
• Communicate with coworkers, clients, and sub‑consultants.
• Plan field programs and analyze geotechnical information.
• Review reports prepared by junior and intermediate staff and prepare geotechnical evaluation reports, including recommendations and site development in seismically sensitive environments.
• Lead or participate in the design of civil earthwork structures and the development of construction specifications.
• Lead or participate in the design of linear infrastructure, including pipelines, water mains, transmission lines, highways, and bridge foundations.
• Lead or participate in the design of marine / port infrastructure, hospitals, community centres, commercial buildings, residential towers, and more.
• Lead or assist with the completion of geohazard assessments, including terrain mapping, hazard mapping, and risk assessments.
• Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
• Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
• Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
• Additional duties as required.

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in civil or geological engineering, preference for a Master’s degree in geotechnical engineering.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant geotechnical engineering and foundation design experience.
• Relevant seismic or soft ground engineering experience preferred; essential experience in geotechnical reconnaissance and site characterization.
• Proven capabilities in planning and supervising geotechnical investigations and in writing reports and technical communications.
• Strong all‑round academic knowledge of geotechnical engineering.
• Expertise in foundation engineering.
• Experience with engineering design software an advantage.
• Experience or aptitude for proposal writing, client development, working in a team setting to meet timelines and other consulting skills.
• Registered or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Travel required throughout Western Canada; candidates must be prepared for field assignments possibly lasting up to three to four weeks at a time.
