This contract position supports a major mining client on a large-scale copper concentrator expansion project. The role will be based in Vancouver, BC within an EPCM consultant office, with periodic travel to a remote project site in Arizona.
The Area Lead will support the Owner’s Engineering Manager (EM) and project team in overseeing detailed engineering (DE) activities and execution. This role is responsible for managing the EPCM consultant and ensuring alignment across engineering, vendor, and stakeholder interfaces within the assigned project area.
Responsibilities- Act as the Owner’s representative for the assigned project area, supporting engineering progress and execution
- Review, investigate, and provide recommendations on EPCM engineering deliverables and overall project performance
- Lead assigned engineering and construction work packages within the broader project scope
- Develop scopes of work, evaluate proposals, and administer contracts for engineering services, field work, and equipment procurement
- Coordinate activities across EPCM, vendors, and contractors, ensuring alignment at key scope and battery limit interfaces
- Support coordination of Owner’s discipline engineers in technical review and oversight of EPCM deliverables
- Provide technical guidance and support to site teams on applicable processes, practices, and engineering requirements
- Ensure effective communication and integration of feedback from Owner’s stakeholders into engineering design and execution
- Represent the project in internal and external stakeholder meetings, including governance or steering committees as required
- Support project planning, budgeting, and execution strategies for the assigned area
- Perform additional duties as required to support overall project delivery
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Process, Electrical, Structural, or Civil)
- 10–12 years of experience in heavy industrial or mining projects, including large capital project delivery
- 2–3 years of experience in engineering leadership or supervisory roles
- Experience working within an EPCM environment and understanding of large-scale project execution
- Working knowledge of copper concentrator operations considered an asset
- Experience working on the Owner’s side within an EPCM structure is preferred
- Broad technical exposure across mining disciplines, including process, mechanical, piping, structural, civil, electrical, and instrumentation
- Proficiency with engineering and project tools such as MS Office, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Aconex, and MS Project
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to interpret complex technical information and provide clear recommendations
- Strong understanding of health and safety practices and risk management
- Ability to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams
