A leading Canadian engineering consultancy is seeking a Structural Department Head to lead a national team delivering hydro and water-retaining structure projects across Canada. This senior leadership role focuses on team management, project delivery excellence, and strategic growth within the structural practice, offering a competitive salary of $150,000–$190,000 CAD.
Role OverviewProvide administrative leadership to a large team of engineers, technologists, technicians, and scientists focused on structural aspects of hydro and water-retaining infrastructure. Oversee design, assessment, and planning for diverse hydro and water projects serving public and private clients nationwide. Ensure high-quality, timely delivery of consulting services to external clients and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities- Manage staff development, performance, coaching, mentoring, and long-term career planning.
- Supervise engineering deliverables across projects, tracking performance metrics and resource allocation.
- Support business development through chance assessments, proposals, and client relationship building.
- Coordinate across disciplines and promote a safety-first culture with proactive problem-solving.
- Bachelor’s in civil/structural engineering (P.Eng. preferred) or equivalent technical background with proven leadership; 15+ years structural experience, ideally in consulting and hydro structures.
- 5+ years managing engineering/technical teams (20+ staff ideal), with strong project management, communication, and client relationship skills.
- Proficiency in office tools for reports, proposals, and technical documentation.
- Salary range: $150,000–$190,000 CAD, plus 4 weeks vacation.
