Duties
As a Senior Surveyor, you will provide professional surveying advice and technical expertise to a variety of government clients (federal and territorial) and you will assist other survey professionals and the public on all aspects of the Canada Lands Surveys System. You will prepare instructions for surveys, conduct field surveys and will prepare survey requirements for contracting of legal surveys. You will work as part of a team to resolve complex boundary and land tenure issues using your extensive surveying background and detailed historical research of survey related documents.

You will review survey returns from other professional to ensure compliance with survey standards and tenure documents.

Intent of the process
The intent is to staff two (2) positions (full-time, permanent) at the EN-SUR-03 group and level, located in the Vancouver office (1138 Melville Street) of the Surveyor General Branch of Natural Resources Canada. A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the EN-SUR-03 group and level within Natural Resources Canada in Vancouver with various tenures (determinate period or permanent).

The language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual), the method to staff a bilingual position (imperative and/or non-imperative), and linguistic profiles (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.) may vary, as well as security requirements (Reliability Status, Secret), conditions of employment and work locations.

  • Reliability Status security clearance
  • Authority to practice as a land surveyor in British Columbia as a practicing member in good standing of the Association of British Columbia Land Surveyors.
Operational Requirements
  • Willing and able to work overtime and to adopt flexible work hours as required.
  • Willing and able to travel within Canada.
  • Willing and able to drive field vehicles, including trucks and all‑terrain vehicles.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Occupational Certification:

  • Authority to practice as a land surveyor in British Columbia as a practicing member of the Association of British Columbia Land Surveyors.
  • Eligibility for a Lands Surveyor's Commission in Canada.

Experience:

  • Approximately 2 years of experience practicing as a British Columbia Land Surveyor.
Applied / assessed at a later date

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the Lands Survey System in British Columbia (including Acts and Regulations)
  • Knowledge of legal land descriptions.

Abilities:

  • Ability to interpret and create legal land descriptions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
