Overview

As part of HDR’s Power sector, you will help shape how electricity is generated, transmitted, and delivered as global energy demands grow. You will work side‑by‑side with expert engineers and scientists to contribute to reliable, resilient and sustainable power systems.

About You

HDR is seeking a Power Market Sector Lead who can lead staff and program management, build local teams across Canada, and support business development activities for a diverse set of power generation, power delivery, hydropower, renewables, technology, data centre, and industrial projects. The role requires leadership, program growth, client development and talent recruitment.

Responsibilities
  • Program, project and delivery design management for power generation, power delivery, hydropower and renewable energy projects.
  • Lead and build multiple teams of engineers and designers across Canada.
  • Develop and execute client relationships, market diversification and business development strategies.
  • Act as senior project manager or senior engineer for power‑related projects (seller‑doer).
  • Utilize knowledge of utility frameworks, design standards and procurement models to scope new project opportunities.
  • Collaborate with marketing, client leaders and HDR operations to deliver world‑class quality and support regulatory approvals.
  • Manage project scope, proposals, execution, quality reviews, close‑out and risk management.
  • Represent HDR at professional organizations and industry events.
  • Support business groups in delivering complex power delivery solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years in substation and/or transmission design, or 4+ years in power generation design, including project management.
  • Professional Engineer designation in Canada (or equivalent).
  • Experience with traditional and alternative procurement delivery models.
  • Strong leadership and staff management skills with national remote teams.
  • Understanding of contractual risk and mitigation strategies.
  • Risk identification and management experience for power delivery regulatory approvals.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, planning or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of industry experience.
  • Experience in development and management of strategic marketing programs for planning and/or engineering services.
  • Experience in managing a wide range of client relationships and pursuing projects.
  • Experience in staff development, recruitment and career path planning.
  • Active involvement with industry associations and a visible profile in the market sector.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with various HDR leadership levels.
  • Demonstrated commitment to HDR values and an active participant of our employee‑owned culture.
