The Role

We are working towards our decarbonized future through the collaborative and responsible development of critical minerals and are looking for an experienced professional to join our Sustainability Team. Reporting to the Vice-President, Environment, the Director, Environment and Regulatory Affairs will manage the company’s environmental assessment and permitting work streams, delivering high-quality technical studies and timely progression through regulatory review processes. The Director will manage consultants, field programs, and technical inputs so that environmental data collection and impact assessments support the defined project approvals process and optimal mine design.

Assessment Delivery
  • Manage the execution of baseline studies, environmental impact assessments, and technical support documents for regulatory submissions including management of environmental consultants to collect data across key disciplines (water, wildlife, vegetation, air quality, cultural heritage, etc.).
  • Pro-actively identify and manage regulatory requirements and risks and work across disciplines including with engineering to integrate feasible mitigation measures directly into project design such that mitigations are comprehensive, defensible, and aligned with regulatory and First Nation expectations.
  • Work with the Indigenous and Community Affairs Team such that environmental studies and project descriptions and regulatory submissions reflect community interests and Traditional Knowledge and where possible plans are developed collaboratively and synergistically.
  • Manage regulatory processes including the preparation and submission of regulatory documents for environmental permits achieving implementable approvals conditions including the environmental assessment. Track regulatory timelines and proactively address potential information gaps or review issues.
  • Develop efficient and effective regulatory processes to facilitate the integration of known Traditional Knowledge and First Nation decision making to strengthen assessment decision outcomes.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the regulatory strategy and support the development and implementation of Government Relations and the Indigenous and Community Affairs Team.
  • Include key First Nations communities and companies who can contribute to, and benefit from, the sharing of information and participate in Company environmental programs.
  • Work with the Indigenous and Community Affairs team to support the collection and distribution of relevant technical and environmental information to community members and/or presentation at community events.
  • Contribute to ESG and sustainability reporting by providing accurate, up-to-date environmental metrics including as required to investor relations and disclosures including climate adaptation and resiliency planning.
Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related technical field from an accredited university or college and a minimum of 12+ years’ experience in a relevant environmental related field.
  • A demonstrated deep understanding of environmental assessment process, technical aspects of mining and associated disciplines including the environmental regulatory regime in BC and Canada as applicable to mining and mine development.
  • Strong communication, analytical, critical thinking, and leadership skills, with ability to influence across senior levels of the business.
  • A commitment to develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with partners and all other stakeholders in both formal and informal settings.
  • Professional registration (e.g., P.Ag., R.P.Bio., PMP) or equivalent is an asset.
  • Experience implementing Environmental Management Systems and industry standards e.g., Mining Association of Canada – Towards Sustainable Mining and Global Industry Standard for Tailings Management is an asset.
  • A strong commitment to workplace safety and ethics.
  • Willingness and ability to travel both in Canada and overseas as required in achieving company objectives.
