Job Description
  • Develop the estimate plan and coordinate estimate development with the project team; including preparation of the Estimate Schedule.
  • Utilize estimating methods and the expertise of other project professionals to establish total project estimates.
  • Perform peer review of estimates when assigned.
  • Refine understanding of conceptual estimating theories and techniques.
  • Coach others in basic understanding of Estimating role in Baseline Centric Execution.
  • Develop detailed E&I Material Take‑Offs (MTOs) for cable, tray, conduit, grounding, lighting, MCCs, switch gear, transformers, heat tracing, and related bulk materials.
  • Prepare accurate E&I material pricing and labour effort‑hour units based on project scope and standards.
  • Create E&I work packages and coding structures aligned with the project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to ensure complete cost capture.
  • Integrate E&I discipline inputs into Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, and Construction (EPFC) estimates, including indirects, escalation, and contingency.
  • Reconcile E&I estimates with drawings, one‑lines, load lists, equipment lists, and vendor/subcontractor quotations.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews of E&I quantities, calculations, and unit rates, and review junior estimators’ work when applicable.
  • Coordinate and validate vendor quotes for major E&I equipment such as substations, E‑houses, switch gear, and power distribution systems.
  • Incorporate mining‑specific constructability considerations including long cable runs, outdoor substations, remote locations, and temporary power/E&I construction needs.
  • Maintain and update E&I unit‑rate databases and norms, and contribute to improving estimating practices and tools.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams to align cost assumptions and ensure estimate completeness.
  • Support estimate reviews and presentations by explaining E&I assumptions, methodologies, basis of estimate, and major cost drivers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Stay abreast of current estimating techniques by maintaining expertise through professional organizations or networking with other estimating specialists within the EPFC/CM industry.
  • Be knowledgeable about business line–specific rates to be applied in estimates.
  • Be active in knowledge‑management portals and communities with regard to forum questions and discussions.
  • Be knowledgeable about the benefits of Cost Competitive Execution, Excel to Win, Business Risk Management Framework (BRMF), and Strategy to Win; actively promote innovative ideas and solutions.
  • Demonstrate ability to attend to detail and work in a time‑conscious and time‑effective manner.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of field experience, preferably in project controls, construction, contracts, or estimating.
  • Demonstrate strong technical ability, combined with communicative skills, to lead estimate development.
  • Knowledgeable about Lump Sum and/or Cost Rider.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing estimates for Mining and Metal projects.
  • Involvement with an Estimating professional society.
  • Minimum of zero (0) years of experience using any of the Fluor Estimating Systems or four (4) years of experience using industry‑recognized estimating systems.

Compressed work schedule:
The Fluor Canada offices work a compressed schedule, offering every second Friday off.

Salary is based upon experience. Salary Range: $ - $. The market rate for the role is typically at the mid‑point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
