Senior Bulk Material Handling; Mechanical Designer

Job Description

The Material Handling group of Fluor’s Mining and Metals business line is involved in all aspects of design and mechanical engineering of large scale belt conveyors, crushing & screening stations, bulk material storage & reclaim solutions, and ship & rail loading & unloading facilities for the mining industry. The successful candidate will work with the lead Material Handling engineer and lead the CAD design effort producing 2D drawings and 3D models suitable for the level of the Project phase.

This position requires excellent knowledge of conveyor layout, chute design, storage bins, feeders, and bulk material reclaim & crushing facilities.

• Use 2D and 3D CAD to create belt conveyor circuits featuring feeding and receiving feed of various crushing, screening, and storage facilities.
• Develop designs and issue drawings for construction and permitting in line with industry standard drafting practices.
• Assign work and check work done by other designers.
• Review supplier drawings and incorporate their equipment into drawings and 3D models.
• Carry out 3D model reviews with Project Management and clients.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Accredited two (2) year diploma/degree or global equivalent in field of study related to mechanical design.
• Over ten (10) years experience in carrying out conveyor, crushing and/or screening facilities design using 2D and/or 3D CAD.
• Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
• Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.
• Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
• Attention to detail and ability to work in a time‑conscious and time‑effective manner.
• Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e‑mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs.

• Knowledge of 2D Bentley Microstation CAD and Intergraph Smart Plant 3D CAD.
• Advanced knowledge of conveyor layout requirements and conveyor detailed drawings.
• Prior experience with comminution circuits and/or port storage and ship loading.
• Practical field experience and/or manufacturing experience.

Compressed work schedule:
The Fluor Canada offices operate a compressed schedule offering every second Friday off.

Salary is based upon experience. Salary Range: $96,500.00 - $. The market rate for the role is typically at the mid‑point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
