Position SummaryAs Senior Structural Engineer joining our growing team, you will lead teams of project engineers working on creative structures with leading architects. Our design philosophy focuses on efficiency, supported by a computational engineering group that utilizes the latest form-finding and optimization techniques.
Responsibilities- Concept scheming and sketching to develop innovative structural solutions with architects and designers.
- Lead and manage multiple teams of project engineers, drafters, and designers; perform quality control with assembly and fabrication teams.
- Lead client meetings (in-person and remote) and facilitate creative design solutions to issues and challenges.
- Provide engineering reports to clients, offer structural guidance on construction and design, and implement necessary modifications.
- Conduct concept-level and detailed structural design and detailing, including calculations, sketches, and finite element modelling (static/dynamic) through pre-construction and construction phases, under mentorship.
- Coordinate with internal project management, shop, and site teams to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery, meeting fabrication and erection constraints.
- Conduct field reviews at project sites (remote or in-person where feasible) and collaborate with install teams on site.
- Review project requirements to estimate material, equipment, and labor quantities and provide input on construction and development budgets.
- Mentor junior structural engineers and contribute to the technical knowledge base.
- Prepare and present engineering reports and provide structural advice to clients; propose necessary modifications.
- Represent the team at conferences, lunch-and-learns, and seminars.
- Master's or Doctorate degree in Civil Engineering (or a related engineering field).
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a structural engineer, with at least 5 years in timber engineering.
- Experience with seismic design in Canada/USA or abroad is a plus.
- Professional licensure (PE, P.Eng., MIStructE, SE) is advantageous.
- Experience leading the design of large-building projects; ability to collaborate with architects and clients to achieve pragmatic, cost-effective solutions.
- Knowledge of Canadian, American, and European codes is beneficial.
- Proficiency with Finite Element software (e.g., SAP
2000, R-FEM, ETABS) and strong Excel skills for calculations. Experience with 3D modelling software (Rhino/Grasshopper/AutoCAD) is a plus. - Strong grasp of engineering fundamentals.
