For this exciting position, we are targeting students with a background in Geology, Chemistry, or similar areas. Candidates must be enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution for the full duration of the co-op term and plan to return to their studies upon completion for at least one academic term. If you are not currently located near the work location, you must be willing to commute or temporarily relocate for the term.
A valid study permit and studentship letter will be required where applicable.
The Geochemistry Database Co-op will be part of the Geoscience, Reserves & Mining (GRM) team, within the Technical and Planning function. The GRM team is a diverse group of multi-disciplinary Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) that use the fundamental principles of geoscience to better understand Teck's assets. The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to assess geochemical data and apply accepted Quality Controls (QC), thus helping ensure that these foundational datasets are fit for use.
These datasets are fundamental inputs to geoscience models and reserve and resource calculations that are used to quantify the value of orebodies and to develop mine plans.
This role provides an excellent opportunity to improve skills in data analysis and data compilation, while gaining valuable insights into industry best practices. The ideal candidate is keen to deepen their understanding of the application of geochemistry and quality control principles. If you have an interest in geochemical data, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn how to manage geochemical data.
You will also learn to evaluate it and confirm it is suitable for its intended use.
This position reports to the Practice Lead, Data Assurance, based in Vancouver, with the option to work remotely up to two days per week.
