Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

The Support Attendant is responsible for the supervision of clients/property through regular rounds of inspection.

Characteristic

Job Duties:

  • Makes scheduled rounds of inspections, checks safety/security, monitors clients/residents and premises; maintains an atmosphere of calm, providing an unobtrusive presence
  • Understands and is aware of emergency/disaster procedures and follows through
  • Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g. police, parole, urgent situations)
  • Coordinates client care relating to security issues; may be directly involved in taking urine samples, doing bed checks, and room/personal searches
  • Reports security problems to appropriate staff
  • Ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client discipline or recommending banning of current or prospective clients
  • Meets visitors and directs and accompanies them as necessary; may include contact to resident/client
  • May serve as Relief Front Desk Clerk
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Education Level Attained: The successful job applicant will have completed High School plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months.

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements:

  • Immunization for Hepatitis B
  • Vaccination against Tuberculosis
  • WHMIS training
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)
  • Mental Health First-Aid
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Non‑violent crisis intervention training

Minimum Prior Related

Experience:

One year of prior related experience, including security experience.

Physical Effort/Dexterity

Required:

The performance of the job requires continuously performing walk‑abouts, and occasionally keyboarding and lifting/packing clients’ belongings.

Concentration

Required:

The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, interacting with clients, and occasionally recording information and monitoring security cameras.

Responsibility For Financial Resources: The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.

Responsibility For Human Resources: The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees.

Work Environment: The incumbent’s work environment is typically in a shelter and/or in Treatment facilities/grounds.

The Incumbent Will Work Under The Following Disagreeable

  • Work schedule affecting lifestyle

Exposure To Hazards: The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of moderate to severe injury or illnesses due to:

  • Sharp objects
  • Other dangerous situations

Hours Of Work: Shifts: 8:00am to 4:00pm, 4:00pm to 12midnight, 12midnight to 8:00am. Shifts are 8.0 hours of paid time.

Compensation:

Probationary rate: $28.32/hour

Post‑probationary rate: $29.07/hour

The target hiring range for this position is $28.32 to $28.70 with a maximum of $29.07. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
