You will be an integral part of a dynamic company, an engaging finance team, and a growing tax department. This position provides the opportunity to participate in a wide range of complex and challenging tax projects and enhance the Company’s global tax landscape through cross-departmental partnership, digital and process efficiencies, and corporate tax savings. The Company has a history of significant acquisitions and transactions that require strategic tax planning to optimize the organization's current and future tax landscape.
We are looking for a dynamic self-starter with professional curiosity and an affinity for creative problem-solving who thrives on new challenges and provides quality work. You will need strong time management and organizational skills, be attentive to details, work both independently and in a team and manage multiple projects while still meeting deadlines. You are expected to automate the tax function by leveraging technology and digital tools to maximize efficiency and accuracy.
Your primary responsibilities will be Canadian corporate income tax, indirect tax compliance, and tax provision. Still, you will also be called upon to assist with a wide array of projects and technical application. The ideal candidate should have working knowledge of tax and willingness to learn, as you are required to stay flexible and provide a broad spectrum of tax compliance support.
Occasional travel to our production facilities and corporate offices is expected.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual income tax provision
- Calculate and process tax instalments and payments
- Prepare corporate income tax returns, elections and/or annual reports,
- Address income tax (re) assessment notices and advise accounting of tax refund journal entries as they occur
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, annual GST/HST, QST and PST returns
- Coordinate tax payment submissions and closely monitor refund claims to ensure timely receipt of refunds
- Prepare indirect tax elections, program applications and disclosure filings
- Prepare Regulation 105 non-resident withholding tax calculations and payment submissions
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations of relevant GL accounts
- Support corporate tax audits (internal and external)
- Engage in tax savings, tax credit claims, and refund opportunities both internally and with third-party consultants
- Assist in preparing annual reports, surveys, and duty/jurisdictional review requests as they occur
- Automate, streamline, and improve tax reporting by leveraging technology
- Prepare working papers supporting tax computations
- Extract and aggregate relevant historic, accounting, and financial data
- Analyze information and present it in a concise and well-documented format
- Check the accuracy and validity of working papers provided by other departments
- Maintain execution and documentation of internal control procedures/policies under Sarbanes-Oxley
- Support the tax function on various ad hoc or planning projects and on other responsibilities as assigned
You have:
- Working towards completion of an accounting designation (CPA) preferred.
- Possess a bachelor’s degree in commerce or business administration (Accounting and/or Finance major is preferred)
- A minimum of 2-3 years of full-cycle accounting work experience and/or work experience in public accounting or tax
- Working knowledge of tax and willingness to learn
- Research and document analysis and conclusions
- Strong computer literacy, including effective working skills of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Compensation Package:
- Competitive base salary with an annual bonus opportunity. The typical salary range for this position is $77,000 to $90,000, which may vary depending on location, education, and relevant experience.
