The Role
The Senior Accountant owns the full-cycle accounting function and ensures the integrity, accuracy, and scalability of financial operations. This role combines hands‑on execution with process design to support our business growth. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Accountant supervises the Bookkeeper and plays a key role in strengthening internal controls, compliance, and financial reporting. This is a Hybrid role – minimum 3 days/week on-site (office located in East Vancouver)
Operational Responsibilities- Manage day‑to‑day cash tracking and support cash flow monitoring.
- Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. Follow up with vendors and clients.
- Process bi‑monthly payroll using Payworks, including adjustments and pr orations as required.
- Manage and file Canadian (GST, PST, HST) and US Sales tax returns monthly and support Nexus monitoring.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE) and company policies.
- Assist the Director of Finance with accounting for related party entities.
- Lead month‑end close including reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules.
- Assist with the annual financial statement reviews.
- Support ad hoc projects as required.
- Develop and manage process improvements that allows for scalability, leveraging AI.
- Collaborate with the finance and operations team on operational improvements.
- Collaborate with the wider team, implementing commercially sound practices.
- Support ERP and systems optimization initiatives.
- Strengthen internal controls and documentation.
- Supervise and develop the Bookkeeper.
- Provide review and coaching support to ensure accuracy and timeliness of day‑to‑day processing.
- Canadian CPA designation.
- 3+ years of experience, ideally including month‑end close ownership.
- Strong working knowledge of ASPE.
- Experience managing multi‑jurisdiction sales tax compliance.
- Knowledge of project‑based accounting.
- Experience using Accounting Seed and Sales Force.
- Experience with US Sales Tax compliance.
- Experience running Canadian Payroll.
