kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation are a distinct BC First Nation whose traditional territory centers on the Coquitlam River Watershed and the surrounding areas. kʷikʷəƛ̓əm draw our name “Red Fish Up the River” from a run of sockeye salmon that once flourished in the Coquitlam River and Coquitlam Lake prior to the construction of the Coquitlam Dam. Our name reflects the strong connection our people have always had to our lands, and the river and lake at the heart of our traditional territory.

The traditional language of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm people is hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓. Our people descended from Elders who were renowned as spirit and winter dancers, skilled canoe builders and master sturgeon and salmon fishers. The Nation is committed to building a strong, self-governing Nation which honors our rich culture, language and history and is based on ancient Coast Salish laws and protocols. Today, as in the past, we are guided by our teachings of our ancestors to be stewards and guardians of our lands and water for past, present, and future generations.

The Land Governance Coordinator supports the Director of Land Governance in managing and maintaining kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation’s Land Code, governance and records processes. This role ensures all land-related records, applications, and permits are accurately documented, organized, and compliant with the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm Land Code and Records & Archives Management System. The Coordinator plays a key role in facilitating departmental operations and assisting with lease and permitting related administration.

The Land Governance Coordinator ensures records are accurate, accessible, and accurately classified while supporting permitting, applications, Lands Committee functions, and day-to-day office operations. This position requires strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. The salary range is $70,000-$80,000.

Job Responsibilities Records Management
  • Maintain and update the departments filing systems (physical and electronic) in alignment with kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation’s Records & Archives management policies and classifications systems.
  • Monitor file management practices, identify gaps, and recommend improvements to maintain consistency and accuracy across the lands office.
  • Log, track, and monitor land-related applications and correspondence (eg., subdivisions, permits, allotments).
  • Assist with the intake and processing of applications, and preparation of briefing materials, correspondence, and Council submissions.
  • Assist in preparation of reports, work plans department budgets, audits, and annual reporting requirements.
  • Assist with coordinating logistics for community consultations, workshops, and engagement events.
  • Monitor project timelines, milestones, risks and implement mitigation strategies
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Lease Management and Land Administration
  • Assist the department with monitoring of leases on Nation lands
  • Ensure lease agreements are compliant with First Nation laws, policies, and applicable federal requirements
  • Track key dates for lease agreements rent reviews, and expirations
  • Coordinate lease negotiations, extensions, and amendments in consultation with lessees and legal advisors
  • Prepare reports and recommendations regarding compliance status and strategic land use opportunities
Policy Compliance and Reporting
  • Ensure compliance with kʷikʷəƛ̓əm’s Land Code and related bylaws and policies
  • Draft amendments and updates to laws, regulations, or policies as required
  • Support the development of new land management initiatives
  • Monitoring legislative and regulatory changes impacting land registration
  • Contribute to departmental budget reviews and meetings
  • Provide information sessions, notices, and educational materials to promote understanding of land processes
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure coordinated land administration
  • Ensure compliance of staff with internal and external policies and procedures
Education, Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Land Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or another relevant field, and two (2) or more years’…
