Position Summary

Under the direction of the Environmental Stewardship Department (ESD) Manager, the Major Projects Coordinator will lead the coordination and implementation of environmental stewardship within Musqueam’s Traditional Territory. The Coordinator will provide guidance and support on policy, programs and projects related to Musqueam environment and stewardship issues, manage and interpret large data sets, maintain datasets, develop strategies, and prepare reports and studies.

The Coordinator will also establish and maintain liaison with a wide variety of internal and external contacts and assist in directing consultants and staff on a project basis.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Assist the ESD Manager as an office lead and take on initiatives to support and advance the work of the department
  • Delegate project tasks to ensure implementation of projects and plans
  • Assist in planning, budgeting, strategic development, and delivery of departmental projects
  • Ensure all deliverables and reporting requirements of agreements are met timely and compliantly
  • Develop, analyze and make recommendations on policy and procedures consistent with MIB objectives
  • Draft professional documents such as management plans or agreements with external partners and coordinate legal review
  • Prepare briefing notes, internal/external reports, summaries, discussion papers, factsheets, and other support materials
  • Analyze, evaluate, and prepare written reports on policy implications from findings
  • Provide statistical and analytical information to management, including metrics, reports, and analyses for data management, tracking and reporting
  • Review, analyze, and prepare summaries, presentations, and graphical representations of proposals and detailed technical reports
  • Lead or participate in technical working groups and sub meetings related to intergovernmental agreements
  • Advocate for Musqueam Title and Rights and environmentally-sound practices to external parties
  • Build and strengthen relationships with external parties to enhance Musqueam’s environmental stewardship
  • Organize community engagement sessions, prepare presentation materials and newsletters, and engage with members respectfully
  • Gather traditional ecological knowledge in a culturally sensitive way from community members, elders, and knowledge holders
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to advance and support Musqueam community values, culture, interests, and capacity
  • Develop briefings and recommendations for MIB leadership structures
  • Assist in the development and management of departmental budgets, including financial reconciliation and funding reporting
  • Seek program funding opportunities, prepare financial work plans and applications
  • Perform related duties as required
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Post‑secondary degree in biology, natural resource management or related field with a minimum of 3 years progressively responsible experience in environmental and First Nations issues, environmental policy or broad‑level program management
  • Experience in identification and evaluation of technical and policy data to support senior‑level decision‑making and funding allocation
  • Experience in management, coordination and implementation of intergovernmental agreements
  • Proven ability to lead technical working groups and synthesize information for external partners
  • Experience leading or facilitating working groups, committees, or similar
  • Ability to drive project delivery across diverse program areas to ensure departmental alignment with agreement criteria
  • Experience developing financial work plans, managing budgets, and performing financial reconciliation
  • Exceptional interpersonal and advocacy skills to diplomatically but firmly advocate for First Nations Title and Rights
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, persuasion, and consensus‑building skills with ability to work under pressure and independently within a team environment
  • Excellent time management skills to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous history and politics in British Columbia and cultural competency regarding Musqueam traditions and interests
  • Advanced skills in MS Office software, Adobe Acrobat and ability to use sound judgment and diplomacy in high‑stress/conflict situations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times and a successful Criminal Record Check
Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office environment and may include offsite activities at assigned worksites. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
