Job Summary
The CIHR Pan-Canadian Network for HIV and STBBI Clinical Trials Research (CTN+) BC & Yukon Regional Team Research Coordinator will have a wide range of general activities related to clinical research conducted by the Regional Team members. These include clinical research coordination and facilitating the operations of the BC & Yukon Regional Team.

Organizational Status

The BC & Yukon Research Coordinator will report to Dr. Melanie Murray and Dr. Troy Grennan, while working closely with other regional team members, staff and collaborators.

The is a collaborative network committed to generating knowledge on the prevention, treatment, and management of HIV, hepatitis C, and other sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs) through the conduct of scientifically sound clinical trials, research, and other interventions. From assessing the cost-effectiveness of a new drug or treatment option to informing policy decisions that change how care is delivered, the CTN+ seeks to improve health outcomes for all.

The acts as one of the operational arms of CTN+ and is responsible for advancing a mission to improve prevention, care and well-being of those affected by HIV and STBBIs and implement CTN+ trials with affected communities. The BC & Yukon Regional Team is made up of researchers, clinicians, Indigenous team members, and people with lived experience. Their expertise informs the Network’s research priorities, special initiatives, and knowledge translation efforts.

Work Performed

  • Lead the implementation of new studies, including developing detailed work plans, standard operating procedures (SOPs), consent forms, recruitment documents, REDCap databases, and surveys. Coordinate all aspects of research projects, tracking recruitment progress, study visits, and other critical activities.

  • Prepare, submit, and manage research ethics board applications, amendments, and renewals, ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Direct and monitor participant recruitment efforts, ensuring alignment with study inclusion criteria and achieving established recruitment targets.

  • Oversee data collection processes, ensure data quality, perform analyses, and contribute to the development of data management tools.

  • Assist in the creation and management of project budgets, negotiate contracts, and prepare financial reports for funding agencies. Administer expense claims, generate and submit invoices, manage cash advances, and process participant honoraria.

  • Facilitate community consultation processes, including identifying consultants and organizing regular meetings. Support the knowledge translation team by participating in event planning and collaborating on the dissemination of study findings through various communication platforms. Write newsletters and prepare reports for the CTN+ Network and funders.

  • Manage grant applications as projects, developing project management frameworks, tracking progress, and facilitating communication with collaborators. Coordinate and assemble comprehensive grant application packages with and on behalf of principal investigators.

  • Onboard, train, and supervise new personnel and junior staff, facilitating goal setting and providing input for performance reviews. Participate in and facilitate team meetings and knowledge exchange activities with policymakers, Regional Team members, and participants.

  • Coordinate all aspects of event planning, including sourcing and managing venues, catering, audiovisual equipment, and other logistical requirements.

  • Contribute to the writing, editing, and proofreading of various documents, including grant applications, manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations.

  • Coordinate the BC & Yukon Seed Funding competition, managing the call for applications, organizing submissions, and coordinating reviews.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Research Coordinator must exercise a high level of professional judgment, confidentiality, and ethical standards. Errors in judgment or execution of duties could compromise the integrity of the research, lead to loss of data, negatively impact study participants, or result in financial loss.

Supervision Received
The Research Coordinator reports to Dr. Melanie Murray and Dr. Troy Grennan (BC & Yukon Regional Team Co-Leads). Works closely with and takes direction from, CTN+ BC & Yukon Project Manager and study Principal and Co-Investigators of the BC & Yukon Regional Team. The Research Coordinator will be expected to exercise a considerable amount of judgment and initiative in their duties and responsibilities.

Supervision Given
The Research Coordinator may oversee junior staff and students.

Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program and a minimum four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some positions may require a graduate degree.
