Come work as an Adult Job Developer with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) at Gastown Vocational Services in Vancouver, BC.

Within the context of a patient/client and family-centred framework and continuum-based care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice and the vision, values and policies of the organization and close collaboration with the occupational therapist, this position is responsible to provide supported employment services for youth and adult clients with mental health disabilities. It establishes rapport with clients and their family;

encourages and supports the attainment of educational and/or employment goals. It provides support to assist clients to obtain information on volunteer and/or employment opportunities and/or job training/retraining initiatives and programs. It provides life skills and pre-employment skills training as needed to clients as part of their volunteer and/or employment readiness. It interviews clients to identify interests, skills, values, job readiness and suitability for employment and/or volunteer opportunities.

It provides assistance with resume writing, job search and retention skills. It facilitates resume and/or interview preparation workshops. It identifies prospective employers within the community appropriate to client’s work profiles. It develops and maintains relationships with vocational resource organizations, provincial and federal vocational programs, wage subsidy programs, etc. to foster employment opportunities for client group.

GVS is a unique supported employment program embedded within the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. GVS has been operating for 30 years providing integrated services to support youth and adults living with mental illness achieve meaningful employment or education. GVS is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team, including Occupational Therapist, Job Developers, Peer Support Workers, Psychologist, and Computer Instructor. A variety of evidence-based practices are used to foster vocational rehabilitation and recovery.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.

For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
