This offer is conditional upon successful completion of a Criminal Record Check. The clinical research coordinator will support the Lunken () Lab at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute () to undertake studies which focus on nutrition and the gut microbiome for adult and pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and submitting research ethics applications, creating, organizing, and implementing study documents and procedures.
They will also contact patients, explain the goals and details of ongoing clinical studies, obtain consent for participant enrollment, and follow up with participants to ensure adherence to study procedures. Additionally, they will ensure that samples and data are properly collected and stored.
The successful candidate will report to Dr Lunken and the senior project coordinator in the lab to fulfill research-related responsibilities in a professional and ethical manner. The research assistant will also interact with members of the Lunken Lab, research staff at BC Children’s Hospital as well as the GI Research Institute, nurses, administrative staff, psychologists, dietitians, and the Director of Operations as well as IBD patients.
Additionally, the research assistant will have contact with internal and external collaborators, UBC finance departments and ethics boards. Office space at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute will be provided. Flexibility in work hours may be required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Identify, screen, consent, recruit, and follow-up study participants, perform study specific assessments, educate, and advise patients regarding protocol requirements.
- Ensure that all aspects of study are performed within International Conference on Harmonization (ICH), Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Tri-Council guidelines, as well as institutional, site and study specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Perform data collection and entry in a timely and accurate manner.
- Preparation of study documents including ethical submissions, regulatory documents, clinical study agreements, and hospital research approvals; supervise trainees and fellows to submit REB documents for studies; maintain accurate records of REB approvals, submit renewals and amendments as required.
- Design and develop study data collection forms for implementation on REDCap or other related programs.
- Build relationships with individuals investigators, medical fellows and graduate students to facilitate successful implementation and recruitment for new clinical studies.
- Develop study advertisement, promotional and instructional material for study participant recruitment.
- Prepare and organize materials (e.g., documents, collection kits) for initial and ongoing patient follow up study visits.
- Maintain study related documents in regulatory/study binder ensuring accuracy and completeness.
